I live in NJ and just found out I can't have a firearm shipped to my house because of NJ state law. So other than shipping to an FFL, which I don't need a C&R for, what do people in NJ do with a C&R?

Some of the supplies/accessories dealers give discounts to C&R, but probably not enough to justify the cost. Otherwise, it's probably worthless to you.

What's a C&R?

Curio and Relic Federal Firearms License – an 03 FFL. Only listed firearms are allowed (or those over 50 years old from the current year) and the holder may not conduct a firearms business.

What was the source, may I ask? Do you currently have an 03 FFL and did the source know this? With out an FFL no one in any of the 50 states may have a firearm shipped to his house.

I can't point you to a source immediately, but NJ has a state law that prohibits firearms shipments to 03 FFL's. All shipments must go to an 01 or 02 (or I suppose manufacturers and importers as well).

I live in NJ and had applied for my C&R license last year. I downloaded the application and sent it off with the check for $30 and waited. About 6 weeks later I got a call from BATFE saying that they wanted to meet with me to finish the application. I agreed to meet at my office. The female agent was pleasant, but it was obvious she made many such visits to advise applicants that NJ requires that you also have a retail license - something you'll not likely get. The bottom line - I canceled my application and got my $30 back about 6 months later.

The moral of the story, forgetaboutit.

I must have met the same pleasant lady. She was very nice. Anyway, I can't have a gun shipped to my house, but I can pick it up. So if I head to a gun show in PA, or if I'm on vacation in Fl I can pick it up and drive it home.

It would just be a lot simpler to have it shipped.
