Okay, so I'm thinking about making the jump. To become a C&R license holder. And, I'm wondering what forms I need to fill out, and who I need to get approval from.

I looked on the ATF's website, and it told me what a C&R license is, and what they can and cannot do however, it did not tell me how to obtain the license (perhaps I wasn't diligent enough on the website, but I couldn't find it to save my life.)

Could a C&R guy help me with the actual steps?

(Oh, and longrifleman, I just want you to know, you are responsible for bringing my milsurp addiction to this stage.... good work :) )

No thanks necessary, glad I could help.:neener:

While you are filling out paperwork, go ahead and do the CMP too. You don't need to eat more than once a day.

Best $30 I ever spent. Really the hardest part is waiting for your license to arrive. :)

When you get your C&R DO NOT sign the original. Make copies when you need to send one off and sign the copy.

Be sure to send a copy to Brownells and Midway. You get dealer pricing when you do this. Also good to buy a CMP rifle with.

XD Fan, nice suggestion. Mine's coming soon, and I was wondering how people got around on the retailers that want ink signed copies mailed to them.

Thankyou very much folks. The forms have been ordered, and I guess it's now just a waiting game.

I already have a list. I'm checking it twice, and the only people who really care if I've been naughty are my credit card company, and they only care that I pay them on time.

But, I understand this is a dangerous hobby to your checkbook.

I put my application in my mailbox on July 7. Credit card was charged by the ATF on the 9th and I received my license today (21st). So exactly two weeks total.:D I had read stories of some quick turn arounds so just in case I have my bound book ready to go. My first order is on its way.

C & R question

I ordered my paper work a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived within 4 days. The question I have is regarding shipments. Where does one have to recieve shipments of C&R firearms. There is aboslutely no one home at my house most days before 5pm. My wife works 1/2 mile down the road and there is some one there Mon-Fri until at least 5pm. I don't really want UPS leaving a rifle sitting on the porch when they could drop it off and my wifes job and it would be safe. Is this allowable? Do I need to have her get a C&R license as well?

Thought I might ask you guys if anyone has any information I would appreciate it

Anyone can accept the shipment. Legally, as long as they can possess a firearm, over 18 etc. Shipment can only be made to the address on the license. I do not know if the shipper can "redirect" the shipment to a known good location. Only thing I know of in the regs is that the seller must ship to the address on the license. As for the paperwork, if they send all the papers in a starter packet you are ok. Otherwise I think you will need the correct fingerprint cards (not sure you need them, yes its been that long), and the certification of US Citizenship, which I always forget.

With UPS, they will redirect it after they try to make the initial delivery attempt. Anyone over 21 can sign for the package as far as UPS is concerned.

The fingerprint cards did not arrive and have read elsewhere that they are no longer needed. The certification of citzenship has been uncluded in the new application.

Thanks for the quick reply Riss I'll get started on the app right away

C/R does not require fingerprints--at least not yet.

Shipping details can be worked out with the man/woman with ALL the power; your regular UPS driver.

Be nice to this person--figure out how all the rules can be met and this person's job made easier and your deliveries secure.

UPS people are (usually) long term folks--they are very willing to help make life easier on their route IF you come to them directly with your needs and concerns. Just my experience, but that is the easy way.

AFAIK any +21 adult can sign--and, no--the delivery can go to another location than the address on your license (as long as you or your agent is receiving the order).

My UPS driver comes daily to my wife's shop and know anything addressed to our home address is to be delivered at the shop. But want to make sure everything is legal. Don't want any hassles with this for the UPS driver or the wife and myself. Certainly not the wife that could be disastrous for everyone including you all for you respinses

Can an FFL ship a firearm to an address that is different from the business premises address identified on the license?
Yes. Neither the GCA nor its implementing regulations contain specific provisions, requiring that an FFL have firearms shipped to their licensed business premises when receiving firearms. To that end, an FFL may lawfully receive firearms at their mailing address, storage location, or other address where the licensee intends to ensure safe and secure receipt of the firearms.
