C&R rifles at home

So, once you got a collect of lovely C&R rifles (pistols as well, but this is the rifle forum), what do you do with them, when you're not shooting or cleaning them? Do you lock them away in a safe? Or do you have some sort of glass-front cabinet to display them?

I've been thinking about getting a cabinet, but all of the ones I've seen store the rifles vertically, with the trigger guards facing out. Not very condusive to showing off a lovely set of Gewehrs or Mosins.

So what do you do?
 
I'm thinking of building a shelf/rack that wraps around the stairwell (capacity 40-50). It would be up in the upper open area out of casual reach. I'll be keeping the bolts in the safe & probably have a cable run through the trigger guards w/ the ends attached to an eyebolt screwed into a stud. The ones that regularly make it out to the range will still be in the safe for easy access.

Some are in the safe, some are in the gun cabinets, most are in a closet I've taken the sliding doors off of. In a few years, when I'm buying again instead of renting, I'll have a den with horizontal racks from floor to ceiling. Why collect them if I can't look at them.
 
From what I've heard about C&R licenses... you start out with a couple nice milsurps (probably just putting them into the safe). Then the safe fills up. Then, your hallway closet fills up. Then you're putting them under the bed. Pretty soon, your stashing them behind the curtains, under the rugs, up in the attic rafters. When your wife and kids get fed up and move out, you can start planning how to display them. "Hmmm... Johnny's bedroom can be the Axis Powers room, and Janie's can be for the Allied Forces."

C&R... it's not just a hobby, it an obsession!

It's also the biggest reason I haven't gotten one. :D
 
I hang them on walls of den with the opposing rifles(wih fixed bayonets) faciing each other. The eye bolts are screwed into studs and I have small keyed alike locks from eye bolts to trigger guards.
 
I buy furniture now based on whether it has legs high enough off the ground so that I can store rifles underneath it stacked at least a couple high.

C&R collecting is also a good way to clean your closets of unneeded stuff. "Lets see... if I just wear a pair of jeans and a t-shirt everyday, I can get rid of all these other clothes and store rifles in this space....." :)
 
I've been considering getting a C&R license, but I've asked around and I don't know how old one needs to be to apply. If it helps, I'm in MA and I'm moving to VT in months.
 
I got my license a few years ago, and there were many C&R items on the market then that caused my wife to really hate me. It was almost every paycheck that something would be delivered. First purchase was a CZ52. I was never so giddy as to actually open the door, sign for the box, open the box, and see it there. It felt like I was getting away with something. :evil:

Course, then wifey saw the checkbook and CC bills. :what:

Oh, and back to the original topic...the safe filled quickly.
 
Some are in the safe, the rest are in the closet. Fair warning though, pre C&R I had five rifles, post C&R I have over 30. But I can stop buying them any time I want, I just don't want to stop at this time.
 
I must be the most disgraceful C&R License holder in the world :eek: . Yeah, I filled up my gun cabinet and now use an extra riflecase (with triggerlocks ;) ) for the overflow. But they stay in locked up and I only allow them to come out on the weekends when I go shooting (and only two at a time :( ). And the accessories. . .I mean, what do you do with a bayonet? I have a drawer with cleaning kits, bayonets, and bandoliers that just don't get used :rolleyes: . And don't even mention the slings ;) .

Hmmm. . .maybe one of these days I'll take out the firing pin and put a Finnish M39 on the wall over my bed :D .
 
Well, I've got 4 long guns at them moment, 3 of which live in the safe (the 870 lives in the bedroom closet.) Being in the Army and moving and renting most of the time, I don't see building wall racks with eye bolts for locking as an option (at least until I retire). Just trying to find a way to show off what I anticipate getting! :D

Dang C&R hasn't even been here a week and it's trying to vacuum out my checking account.

My greedy C&R ate my whole "new PC" budget in one month :what: :D :rolleyes: . I kept thinkin' "Well, the PC I have now works just fine. . ."
 
I've got mine in two safes and I'm seriously considering another.

But, if I do, then the third is going to have to go in my workshop which is detached from the house.

I don't like the idea of my guns being too far from my supervision but I'll have no chance if I get that third safe.

I live in the boonies so it's not like I have burglaries to worry about like jam packed city neighborhoods but then again, it could happen.

One thing is for certain, I'll enclose the safe (which will be bolted to the floor and 2 X 6 studs) in another steel lined room. If anyone gets past the dogs to them they're going to have to work for them.
 
Mine are in my safe which is out of room and I plan on ordering two guns this week. I saw an awesome gun room over at Parralax C&R. I need to dedicate a room in the basement and build a rack. I want some sort of locking mech and I'll need a dehumidifier. I also want to build chest for all of my surplus ammo.
 
Well, in my new house, there will be an entire room dedicated to firearms... Steel/concrete walls, a heavy metal door with a combination lock, and then the rifles, pistols, shotguns, mags, and ammunition inside, along with a dehumidifier and workbench.
 
I was fortunate enough to visit the gunroom of a fellow C&R collector. His passion rested mostly with German WWII guns, and when I say "he had them all", I mean it. Pistols and rifles, MG34, MG42, STG44, etc... He had them in museum quality glass-front display cases, floor to ceiling. Of course, with labels for each. Well, the machineguns weren't in cases, they were on tripods in the middle of the room.

Very impressive. Motivated me to get my C&R. I only have a few so far, but I'm about to add a Mk5 Jungle Carbine pretty soon.
