Been lookin into an ar15 that california friendly, the popular FAB-10 which isnt too bad if you have some stripper clips. Then theres the less common Monster Man Grip Anyone have experience with either or both? any comments?:uhoh:

Consider the Prince 50 maglok.

It's a lockable mag release. Unlockable when you cross the state line.

Or get a Sporting Conversions maglok.

I would never get a FAB10. You can build your own with any legal lower receiver, and you'll have a full-featured 2007 AR should there be future bans. Or you can buy a complete assembled CA-legal lower from LAN World for the same price as the FAB10. I'm surprised they're in business.

Remember: you need to have a muzzle brake or a plain barrel, not any kind of flash suppressor, if you use the MonsterMan.

http://www.calguns.net/ - a forum like this one, but CA-specific
http://www.lanworldinc.com/ - vendor that caters to CA, good prices
http://www.tenpercentfirearms.com/ - vendor in CA, good prices

If you all ready have mags then definitely get the MM grip. You might also want to look at the U-15 stock as well. Like the others said, just make sure you are legal, you cant have any other "evil" features since you have a detachable mag.
If you want all the features, like ArmedBear said, go with the Prince50.
With the MM or Prince50 it is quick and easy to switch when you leave CA. Just make sure you revert back before coming back into CA.
Don’t even bother with the FAB-10. It is now useless with no redeeming qualities. Heck it is even more expensive as well.

I guess I'd go with the MM grip. While I dont think his grip is the most natural thing in the world, fixed magazines are just too lame for me.

Erase "FAB-10" from your vocabulary. You can build your rifle on any off-list receiver. I currently have a stripped off-list Stag-15 lower receiver acting as a paperweight. I dont think Im gonna build it up. Thinking of asking the pawn shop who transferred it for me if they'd take it in trade for a Hi-point and some cash.

Yeah, I bought a couple of lowers when the whole OLL thing came out in the open. Still haven't built them up.

I don't really care for the AR all that much.

I know some feel differently, but rifles like this

feel better to me than rifles with parts that stick out all over the place.

If California weren't trying to tell me I can't have one, I wouldn't be interested in having one. That's true of a good number of people I've talked to.

Yeah, I hate to be That Guy who jumps into a thread and suggest something that was not an option in the OP's question, but if I was in Cali and I was looking for a semi-auto military rifle, I would be all about the M14/M1A. The AWB is stupid, but if you're going to be forced to comply with it, the M14-style rifle probably does it better than anything else.
