ARTICLE 3. PERMITS

12230.
The Department of Justice may issue permits for the possession, manufacture, and transportation or possession, manufacture, or transportation of machineguns, upon a satisfactory showing that good cause exists for the issuance thereof to the applicant for the permit, but no permit shall be issued to a person who is under 18 years of age.

Anyone apply for one? Anyone actually recive one?

Anyone with CCW in their county already go and ask for an MG permit? (the premise being, the Chief LEO has already issued you a permit decreing you of good moral character, etc.)

I would very much like an M-16.

The exception built into the CA machinegun ban is pretty much exclusively for those who make a living supplying full-auto stuff for film and television production, or those with the clout to get the permit for themselves. Unless you happen to know Arnie personally, don't hold your breath.

As I understand it, Justin is correct. You can't get the permit unless you can demonstrate that you need it for your business, which means that you have customers for such a business (NFA rentals) already. And you can't get customers unless you already have the permits/are already operating.

So it's a Catch-22.

Also, you run into the problem that most (all?) full-autos are also "assault weapons" (pistol grip, over ten round magazine, etc.) and there's no more registration for "assault weapons". So, the answer one way or another, is no. Time to leave the state.

Actually, no. California's SB23 covers all SEMI-automatic detachible mag firearms.

MG permit is amoungst the only way for citizens to get 'new' (pre-86 transferible of course) AR-15 type guns.

Kind of ironic, if you remove the DIAS (part that makes an M-16 full auto), the gun then does become an illegal assault weapon.

There is a specific 'for movie studios only' in the SBR and AOW restrictions in CA, but MG trumps all of those. (ie, you can have a 14.5" barrel M-4, and it's not a SBR, it's just a Maching Gun.)

Time to leave the state.

???? that, I like it here, my companies are all here, and so are the Redwoods. I'm staying, and I'm keeping my guns.

I do own/partner in two production companies, and know people who've met Arnie, so maybe I've got a chance :)

the California permit is not granted by the Govenor, it's granted by the attorney general (Bill Lock-u-up, and he hates guns) so the chance of getting a permit, is never impossible. Infact many permits were recalled when Lock-u-up became the AG. Only way to around the permit is if you have a class 3 FFL.

How come in the Bushmaster catalog they stress in bold NO M-16 parts can be sold to CA?

It looks like you *could* own one.

That's cool, I miss the places to ride the most. But I buy guns cash & carry with no NICS check now (and any gun I want - no list to go by), legally carry a gun everyday and am about to buy an Uzi. I'd say leaving was the best thing I've ever done, and it's only been 9 months! :)
