For private party transfer of a non-C&R longarm in California - do I need anything besides a Driver's License and a right thumb

The CRPA sent me a copy of current CA firearms laws. In the FAQ it states that "All private sales of firearms (except antiques or individual curio/relic rifles and shotguns that are at least 50 years old) must be conducted through a fully-licensed firearms dealer."

Only handguns require the HSC (Handgun Safety Certificate). It states that the serial number of the rifle or shotgun is not reported when the dealer sends in the DROS. Only handgun serial numbers are reported.

Thanks

Any input from CA members who have conducted one before?

In CA, a "PPT" is done through an FFL.

So for a longarm PPT I need to

Fill out paperwork
Have Driver's License
Provide thumbprint

Anything I'm missing?

... Pay PPT fee
... Wait 10 days (10 24-hour periods)
... have a CA-approved gun lock, or safe

Be sure to get a copy of the DROS for your records.
