I live near Grand Rapids, MI and heard that Cabela's was looking at a moving into the area about 2-3 months ago. Just yesterday a friend of mine told me that our governor shut down the deal because Cabela's was going to sell guns. Anybody else in the area hear anything like that?

That'd be a major surprise to the Cabela's gun counter sales help in Dundee, MI! Maybe the gov doesn't know where Dundee is?

It is, BTW, a very cool store!

They sell guns at their Dundee MI store. I cat belive the govenor would veto a business that would bring that much money to the state because of that. I also have a hard time beliving cabells would put in a store so close to another store.

That's been going on for a while.

I don't believe the governor had anything to do with it either way. She's begging for jobs coming here and Cabellas in Dundee brings in huge tourism dollars from surrounding states.

Finding Dundee

Len,

As a Virginian, I remain mystified when a Michigan-er gives you directions to somewhere in the state by holding his right hand up and touching it with his left finger.... :)

No wonder where Dundee is hard. People's hands are all different sizes.

John

But Dundee is easy..its right there near the edge of the meaty part under your thumb!

I live right where those two lines form a vee right above the wrist.

:)

John...being from Virginia, you must at least agree the "Michigan Mitten" is a touch more polite than the West Virginia method...

Although I probably would never buy guns from Cabelas [too many smaller outfits here in SE MI give much better pricing], they are a great "everything outdoor" store. More power to them if they open another here in the state.

They may just be one of the best things that ever happened to Dundee, according to the locals. They love the jobs, and the steady influx of good people that shop there.

Cog:

Our beloved governor who predicted "blood in the streets" before Michigan's Concealed Carry law took effect, has wisely done an about face and has admitted she was wrong.

Of course this is mindless political pandering. She has everything to lose and nothing to gain by being against Concealed Carry and especially since her ability to fortell the future has served her so poorly.

If Cabella's builds another store in Michigan, Governon "Blood In The Streets" Jennifer Granholm will be there cutting the ribbon and telling us how she has been our friend all along.

Cynically,

Kowboy

I bought a VGC HK P7 from Cabelas in Dunee. The price was competitive plus it came with a 30 day money back guarantee, how can you not buy?

Although when I plan a purchase in advance, I go to Guns Galore in Fenton, both stores at least an hour from home.

A Grand Rapids store would be good for Illinoise and Indiana.

On the subject of Cabela's, if you get the catalogs, there is nothing new to see in the store. As for Jenny, she has completely changed her ways and deserves the votes of those who are pro-gun and in the working class.

I read sometime this past month that Cabela's was going to open a store in Hammond, Indiana, some time in 2007. That could be taking the place of Grand Rapids.

112 miles each way

Every time I want to go there, and with gas at $3.05 a gallon :cuss: today I tend to only drool over their catalogue.:p I would be real nice if they were to build one closer, but then I would have to get a job there so I could afford all the extra toy's I would want to buy.

Mayor...

...Although I've bought guns there, Guns Galore has the surliest, most un-helpful salespeople I've come across. I may wind up spending $10-20 more, but I go to Williams Gunsight (Davison) or Wingshooters (Clio).

As for Jenny, she has completely changed her ways and deserves the votes of those who are pro-gun and in the working class.

She's polling callers on whether or not to sign Castle Doctrine and if our economy continues in the direction its going, none of us will be working class.

SD, dunno what's up with his site..he's still in the gun and gauge business.

That gun library is pretty nice. Not many places you can see $30,000 Colt SAA these days. I applied to work there before last thanksgiving for the seasonal rush but unfortunately I never got a call back. It's only a half-hour drive from my place.

I moved to Michigan when I was six. They teach you that in the 2nd grade there.

But being Upper Michigan, you have to use your other hand to form the upper peninsula. :D

+1 on Guns Galore staff. Their prices are good and they have a large selection, but shopping there is not a pleasant experience.
