Hi,

I have $71 in Cabela's points, and a $20 off/$150 coupon I was thinking of using to buy a new S&W 642, or 637, or maybe a Model 36 or 60 if they have one. Does anybody know what their prices are on new stock? I've heard their Gun Library is overpriced. Do they just sell new at MSRP?

Thanks in advance.

Usually MSRP or there about. They don't sell or advertise guns for sale on the Internet.

I've always though of Cabela's as just plain old retail. Not great, not bad.

They had a sale flier in the paper not too long ago with 642's for about $320, or thereabouts.

I find their prices generally below MSRP a little, or a lot, if they have the gun on sale at the time.

Gun Library prices are way high, but not set in stone by any means.

They expect to haggle, and often will come way down from the sticker-shock price marked on them!

+1 package your points and money coupons off makes for a ok deal. as an aside,,,my card is for $30 off of 150. regional differences perhaps.

If you can get the fliers they send out there are occasionally a deal. Small snub nose J frames were on sale couple months ago. With the 20/150 that would have been a deal.

I read what I thought was the fine print on that coupon, and I didn't think it said guns. I'll check again.

Go to another gun shop and check the prices they have for what you are interested in and then go to Cabela's and ask why you should buy from them when you can get it for $$ at Joe's Gun Shop. They may verify the price and sell it to you for the same $, if they do then hit them with the points etc.

They're HIGH. Just look online and you'll see that. used priced at new prices??? The local one has this probelm too.

ex; used plain jane nothing special about it at all Ruger #1 tagged at $900+ NEW everyplace else is $75 less.

At Cabelas used guns have new prices, new guns have MSRP prices. Spend your gift card/reward points on ammo :).

Just my .02,

My experience has been their gun prices are hit or miss... in general, high, but there's almost always a deal hidden in there just because they have so much stock.

The one in Hamburg PA is HIGH, especially on used guns. I've seen used rifles that are marked up OVER MSRP. Granted, this was close to Christmas.

Here in KC the prices are usually lower than MSRP but a little higher than what you "CAN" find it for. The nice thing is the layaway program that let's you put the weapon back and pay it off over 4 months if you need that kind of time. There is no charge for this service.
An inside tip (at least for KC) if the price ends in 00 there is dicker room. If the price ends in 99, it is solid and they won't dicker. I bought so many from them in a short period of time that they finally borke down and told me that. :D
Also, they're trade in prices if you want to trade are usually quite good IF you know what your weapon is worth. If you put it into a cabela's gift card (if you're going to trade it on a weapon at cabela's anyway) they tack on sales tax credit for that amount, so it saves you a little more even. Overall, I'm a fan of Cabela's, but you have to know what you're MSRP's are and what the street price is as well. If you do, you can find some good deals there.
Good luck!

Edit: Also forgot to mention the free transfer of weapons between stores. If they have a weapon that you want but it's 5 states away they will bring it in free of charge. Either new or used. They can check all of their stores through the computer in the Gun Library.

I wondered about that. As I have been looking at the gun library stuff across the country, and was interested in a couple out of state. Good to know.

I am having a .44 transfered from WV to MN and they are charging me $35, regardless if I buy it or not. (So they say) I have not negotiated with them yet though, so we'll see.
I have gotten some good offers from Cabelas in the past-around x-mas time I got a coupon for $100 off a $500 purchase, that one was nice. I just got that $20 off flyer, that should get me a quarter box of 44's!
