Who makes these scopes for Cabelas? They offer a lifetime warranty with them. Anybody have one or used one before?

not sure but im tempted to get one

ive always been happy with anything ive gotten from cabelas so i think their scopes would be good quality most have good reviews

Generally speaking, I've always been happy with Cabela's. I try not to buy guns-n-ammo from them as I can usually find better prices but their customer service has always been great. I had a bore brush get jammed in one of their blackpowder rifle kits and they replaced the barrel, no questions asked.

As to the scope manufacturer, give their optic shop a call. They should know the primary manufacturer.

when a buddy of mine picked up a remington 700 with one of their scopes, the guy at the counter told us that bushnell made them.

I have two Cabela's scopes. One is a 6-18x40mm SF Target Dot and has been on my Varmint AR-15 for 3 years now and has seen 1000+ rnds. It shoots sub 1" 5 shot groups all day holds zero, adjustments work good and the image quality is decent made in China. I also have a 3-12x32mm Alaskan Guide model that has clear glass and duplex reticle made in Japan. They have both done very well for the money spent.

I did have one bad experience with a scope that I purchased from Cabelas. It was a Pine Ridge with "tactical" range compensation turrets for 308, 30-06 etc. Problem was the image was distorted and I returned the scope (had mail ordered it) to the store without mounting it knowing I'd be disappointed with the image quality. I did look through a few more of those in store but they didn't impress me. But that was the day I picked up the Alaskan Guide scope that I felt had better optics than the Bushnell 3200 Elite I was looking at.

It's only a guess...

Probably each scope in the Cabela line is made by some different manufacturer under contract.

Since Cabelas operates no primary manufacturing themselves, they put out bid solicitations for scopes, sleeping bags, hats, knives, keychains, sausage stuffers, gun racks, rods and reels, stadium seat pads, truck steps, compound bows, fruitcakes, men/kids/women's clothing, ATV lighting kits, chandeliers, shower curtains (your choice of camo pattern!), boots, monofilament line, toilet seats... you get the point.

The guy who said "Bushnell makes them" is probably misinformed.

I have a Cabela Pine Ridge scope made in China, an Alaskan Guide made in Japan, and a Tactical SF made in the Phillipines. We'll probably never find out who actually made them.

i was just repeating what i was told by a sales person. i was actually told that on 2 separate occasions. the scope on my buddy's rifle seems nice and held zero very well. if their own sales people don't have a clue, who am i to say?

I've looked online for a few years now trying to find out. no luck other than a statement on a forum like "the guy at the counter told me _______ makes them" with bushnell, leupold, simmons in the blank. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the lowest bidder in asia makes them more or less to cabelas specs. it's the more or less part that scares me.

I sure see a lot of them in the bargain bin returned scopes case.

Yep, they send out a quote package to a bunch of manufacturers who bid to their spec, the lowest qualified bid gets the contract.

I bought a new 45/70 and wanted a 4x scope on it. I ordered a cabelas pine ridge for it. When I received it, it looked a lot like the tasco scope I have on a 22 rifle. It said it was shock proof.

I bore sighted the rifle and went to the range. The first three shots were touching just over the bullseye at 100 yards. The next three were in an inch and a half. Then about 5 inches, then 12 inches and by the time I shot 20 rounds it was all over the paper.

I returned it to cabelas for credit towards a leupold scope. That was the last under a hundred dollar scope I have bought. Cabelas didn't have any problem replacing the scope. They are good like that.

Thats why they have a lifetime warranty.

Sell you a 20 buck scope for a 100 bucks.
If it breaks, give you another 20 buck scope, and so on, and so on.

They can give you 4 replacements before it starts costing them anything.

In the mean time, you have shot up several hundred bucks at todays ammo prices, screwing with bad scopes.

If you are also buying your ammo from them, it's a win-win for them all the way!

I should say that the higher priced line of Cabalas scopes & binoculars are pretty darn good. But they are built to a higher standard of design & QC then the cheaper ones.

Excellent explanation. But I'd add to the ammo spent the time spent in going to/from the store or the money spent in shipping the scope back.

Even though I'm still relatively young, I realized a few years ago that I'd rather pay more for a quality product and keep it for a lifetime (or almost a lifetime) rather than buy something cheap and have to continually replace it. Indeed, Cabela's is always happy to return/exchange something, but I'd rather do my research and buy a good product once instead of buying (or returning) a bad product numerous times.

Hey, mypps. Yes, friend, I know you were just repeating the salesman's words. Sorry if it sounded like I was referring to you. Nothing of the sort. You're in good company here.

I didn't and wouldn't ever pay retail at Cabelas for their scopes. All of mine were at clearance prices. The Alaskan guide I purchased retailed for $229 and I got it for $35. I know I did well on that one. The other was $79 but still far cry from $169 at regular price. Both are good quality for that money. The one I returned was on clearance "Bargan Cave" for $69 and normally sold for $149.

I have a Pine Ridge 6X. It has survived several high powered rifles in the 308 category and a 22 semi-auto. It is OK for paper punching and hunting out to 150 yards.
