So is cabels a good place to buy/price guns? I really like there selection..
I have been going to the one in Dundee Michigan... about 45 min drive for me...

has anyone had a bad experence with them?

Cabela's has a great selection of new stuff. As far as their prices, I'd call them anywhere from fair to moderately overpriced. I used to get coupons from them every other month or so for $$$ off ($40 off $200 purchase, $100 off $500), that made for some really great deals. I haven't received one in at least the last 3-4 months:(:(:(.

As far as used guns, pretty much the same thing applies. If you really know what you're looking at, you can occasionally find a great deal due to some price-marker's generosity/ignorance of what they are pricing. The really good thing about their used guns is that they give a guarantee on them. If they don't work or if you just change your mind, you can bring it back for a full refund. Try that at the local pawn shop or gun shop!!!

I bought 2 pistols from Cabelas. Prices are competitive to slightly more expensive. Inspect your gun carefully for scratches. They are close to each other in a show case. Wait for their discounts (get on their mailing list).
I got $45 off for signing up for a Cabelas Visa. Ask what kind of incentives are currently available. I get $$$ points for using the card.
I have no complaints about their products or service. If I should get an discount card/ad in the mail this week I'll PM you. You can have it.

BUT...please shop & compare prices before you purchase a Gun from them if you do not have a discount coupon.

I bought my Ruger Charger from sportingarms.com for $274. I saw it at Cabela's in Fort Worth for $339 last week. I have bought a couple of guns from them in the past: Taurus 9mm because they had them on sale with 4 magazines; Marlin 29A because no one else had them; Colt Python... well, because I would have paid any price (it is a safe queen).

If they have something on sale, or I really, really want it, I'd buy from them again, but only after I checked the internet for prices first. (Got a Blackberry last year for birthday so I can check prices without leaving the store).

Generally good folks to deal with.

They price match. If you're buying new, bring an ad with you, or have the # for the local shop that has what you want.

Can't beat the guarantee.

Selection is decent prices are high, many times even $100+ above MSRP. Their used selection is nice but once again pretty expensive, many times at new prices.

Their ammo selection is second to none unless you consider online. Reloading supplies a plenty. I usually shop here for those.

u, or have

Well, they wouldn't match the price Bass Pro was offering on a Browning BPS shotgun I was shopping for. Bass Pro got my business (by the way, I'm a big "fan" of Cabellas and have done my share over the past three decades or so to help keep them solvent!).

i like them a lot. check them out at least twice a month for specials and shipments. a few times a year they have the $4.95 deal where anything you order will be shipped for 4.95. That for sure beats anyone else. it seems as though they stand behind the products they sell as well overall im happy with them.

They have decen prices and great selection at the two I shop at. They don't really go over their used guns they bring in - I picked up a Buckmark that stovepiped 60% of the time but they took it back no questions asked.

My only other complaint is they never seem to have enough people working at the gun county so whenever I'm there - I end up waiting 45 mintues for service....

I shop the Hoffman Estate store in Illinois near where I live, I was excited for this place to finally open, but quickly realized that if it not advertised in the circular you can do better elsewhere. My local gun shop can beat Cabelas everyday price on guns and ammo unless it was advertised.

I am as price conscious as the next guy but I would rather give my money to the little guy who makes his business decisions sitting at his dinner table than a big corporate board room.

Keep the money in the neighborhood.

Cabela's in Dundee, and elsewhere, is having a used gun sale at the end of this month. Supposed to be new inventory just for it.
If I was closer I'd wander in and see what they had.

I got a reasonably good deal on a nickled, used, Smith M58 .41 Magnum at the Dundee store some years ago. I was able to bargain a bit on the price.

I bought two

pistols from them. A used Ed Brown Kobra and a Ruger 22/45. Both are great guns at a very fair price. Most important they had them.

Can't beat the guarantee.

One of my best buddies would beg to differ. He ordered a new shotgun for his daughter. Took forever to come in. When it did come in, it was damaged. It took forever to get fixed and the fix was not done satisfactorily. Store said they would order a new one. It got lost. Offered him a deal on a Rem 1100 28 gauge. When he got home, they had put a 12 gauge in the box. Finally got a gun- but it took several months of futzin' around with clerks, assistant managers, managers, etc.

OK- here is the full story from the horse's mouth. He wanted a 28 ga O/U for his daughter.

Actually bought it new in store, put 3 rounds thru it and it broke.

Called - said bring it in today and they'd swap it out and have one on hold

Showed up - no gun - told would be overnighted. Manager of the gun library
tried to sell me a $6500 Padrone (no BS) as they had no other cheaper 28g in
the store (give me a break!!!!). I thought he was kidding, but he said he
was very serious and to take my time and look at it. We passed - my
daughter's 12 and only been shooting in 4H for about a year.

3 days later I called and they said come up - again - no gun and no excuse
as to why they told me on the phone there was one.

I kept calling (never once have I EVER received a call from them) and 1
month later told to pick it up - the stock had mud, the barrel had scratches
to the bare metal - it was obviously used (but they had packaged it to look
factory fresh) - my daughter literally had tears and said she just wanted to
leave.

Raised hell - told they'd overnight from 2 locations to ensure delivery

I continued to call every few days - nothing

6 weeks later, I called, said I'm coming to cash in all my Christmas gift
cards as I'll never do business there again

Showed up and naturally the manager I have been talking with is no longer
with the company (convenient). Offered ~$80 off a Remington 1100 for my
trouble (didn't even pay for the 4 trips worth of gas). My girl is used to
an OU so took about 30 minutes putting it thru the paces and feel
comfortable loading, breaking it down, etc. Finally said she'd try it.
Naturally, had to re-do paperwork and the process took about 30 minutes.
Walked us to the door and away we went. Got home to put it in the safe and
they had boxed up a 12g not a 28g. Shame on me for not checking before I
left, but with all the strict controls who'd a thought?

Raised hell - drove back the next weekend and the new manager was not there
anymore and I now had someone new to explain the entire ordeal to. She
shoved me off on the guy that tried to sell me the $6500 shotgun who pawned
me off the guy that gave me the 12 vs 28g (he was actually VERY nice thru
all this and just felt terrible) - ended up with the 28g, and for my trouble
(5 trips, >900 miles, and a daughter without her shotgun for ~3 months) they
thru in a case of shells, resulting in a net savings of ~$200 on the
shotgun. To be fair I told them not to offer me anything as I would NEVER be
back, but this guy said he felt terrible and had to do something.

That's the story. I won't be back.

I never thought that I'd buy a gun at Cabela's due to their higher than normal prices.

I was wrong. I bought a S&W M41 at the Hamburg store. The price was on par with other used ones in the area that had them.

Even got $25 knocked off and a free plastic case. Yeah, I was surprised.

I've noticed the one by me (st. louis) is priced higher than most local shops for guns. For accessories/scopes/etc. they are usually cheaper though. I've had great experiences with them though, they have a great return policy and are generally helpful.

I have some gift cards and have been trying to buy some of their bulk .223 for months. It is continually on backorder and nobody knows when it will be back in stock. They haven't received any in at least 6 months and they still won't substitute. That sucks.

The new Cabela's in Reno is a bit overpriced on most of their new and used guns. Ammo is on the high side also but they do have a good selection. I herd the Sportsman's Warehouse is going to move to Carson City and the new Scheels All Sports is going to open in Sparks this fall. 248000 square feet is a big sporting goods store.
