Anyone familiar with Caesar Guerini shotguns? How do they compare to Beretta or Browning O/U's? They seem to run a bit more, price-wise, and I'm sort of wondering if the additional cost is justified by quality, reliability, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Excellently made Italian shotguns that are in the same vein as the B&B boys with typically a little better balance and handling, along with what many consider to be a better cosmetic finish. They EXCEL over the B&B's with their customer service, including three free tuneups (1/yr). That's very nice when you start shooting targets in large volumes. The Summit is popular in my area - even a few Magnus can be seen. Haven't seen their new one yet, though

Very nice guns, very well made, very light. In fact the lightweight version is a bit too light for my taste, but if you want a true featherweight, there it is.

Besides mid-grade Brownings and Berettas, is there any other manufacturer that compares to Guerini around this 3000 to 3750 price point? Any others I ought to be trying to check out?

I have a CG Summit undersingle trap gun, and plan to shoot it until the blueing gets shot off the barrel. No better unsingle gun made in my opinion, and I have shot many trap shotguns. For O/Us there are different options depending on what you want to se it for (trap doubles, skeet, or sporting clays), but on some of the models CG has added the raised, adjustable target rib that you also see on the Kolar skeet guns, the ribs that you can adjust POI with and keep your head in a more upright position while shooting. www.gueriniusa.com has all the info you need, and they have great customer service...call them if you have questions and they will always be happy to answer.

For $3500, you can't buy a better shotgun. DO IT! ;)

CG Shotguns

While I am a Beretta person and do not like the way a CG fits unlike many others who love them. All said it is a well made gun with great customer service. I guess that is why they make more than one brand of gun.

A Zoli MIGHT be in that ballpark and worth looking at as well, but I believe tat CG has better customer service

If you go to shotgunworld.com and scroll all the way down, they have various "I love my...." sections - there's one for CG

Local gun store says Guerini will actually e-mail you photos of the model you want to buy as they come out of production. Evidently you can pick through the photos until you find the model you want with a wood grain that suits you. That sure sounds like service!

Nothing against CG -- they're quite nice -- but since you asked about other guns in the market segment...

The new Fausti Stefano guns are worth a look. They're finally selling some of their own guns in the US, under their own name, to their own specs. http://www.faustiusa.com

They have a narrower O/U product offering than CG at the moment, but they're nice guns from what I have seen.

Franchi's O/Us are similar in fundamental design to the CGs if you want an ultralight field gun at a lower price point.

Personally, I don't love the under-barrel lockup of CGs and Franchis, but they have trunnions instead of a big Browning-style hinge under the barrels, so they're lower in profile than the Superposed-based guns, at any rate. (The Superposed was a clunky anachronism even when introduced 3/4 of a century ago, but 1/4 century after the Boss patent.) CGs have fine fit and finish. In subgauges, the receiver proportions due to the lockup are much less of an issue than in 12, also, and I'm not in the market for more 12s. So, the nice CGs have certainly caught my eye.

Still, for me, fit and geometry come first. Without the basic geometry and balance that I like, things like wood-to-metal fit and nice engraving don't matter. So if you're asking about CG vs. B&B, IMHO you've got some deciding to do, about what feels right to you. They're all different.

My 28 ga. Woodlander next to my 12 ga. 870 Express. Both have 28" barrels.

As far as customer service goes, when I called CG-USA 5 or 6 years ago about have the ejectors converted to extractors, I was promised a call back as soon as a customer in the shop left. Within an hour I received a call from Wes Lang, President of CG-USA. The dealer sent the gun to CG and it was back in a week or so.

(I think I did a great job hand sanding the Decelerator pad to fit the 870. :) )

A CG is on my list of guns to get when I win the Powerball. If you do get one, please do a review, complete with a boatload of pics.
