calculate theoretical speed?

Just wondering if there was any way to calculate theoretical speed of a bullet just by the materials used.

Say I have a 40gr 9mm bullet being shot out of a 5in barrel say with 6.1grs of AA2 behind it is there anyway to get a close guess on how fast that bullet would be moving?

Yes. A reloading manual or Quickload.

Manuals and general computer programs can get you in a ball park. But, there are too many variables for the calculations to get close.

A computer program could be devised that would accurately predict a velocity, but it would require some specific information on the firearm used.
