Cali 10 cent ammo tax update

As a follow on to my comments about economic war in the PDRK, I just listened on the radio to a Democratic plan in the legislature to increase the fee to renew one's drivers license from $15 to $45 if the driver renews his or her license in person at DMV.

Currently, if you have a clean drivers record for two years, you can renew by mail. Just send money.

Yeah - but currently if you want to renew by the internet, [saving them the cost of paying someone to open the letter, process the information, and deposit the check,] they charge an additional $3, or 20% extra.

Duh!

As long as the general populace sees this as another sin tax, like on tobacco, alcohol and luxury autos, this thing will sail thru in some version. Minorities (active shooters) are easy to persecute because it's someone else's "ox being gored". No one who isn't directly affected by the tax is overly concerned about the morality or fairness involved. Just tell everyone it is for a good cause. Maybe an industry lobby group could grease the right palms (speech honorariums?) and get this killed, but I think they got us pegged as easy money. I'm buying primers, powder and bullets.

So if the gun owners who are buying all of this ammo for this purported health plan are not the typical victim of a gunshot wound, why are they the ones paying the tax? Is this not a "specialty tax" that affects a narrow segment of society and aren't the ones being taxed the ones who are supposed to reap the benefit of the tax?

What ever happened to "taxation without representation"? How are the firearms owners "represented" on this issue? The only way to "benefit" from the taxes one pays into this system is to get shot.

By the by, does someone who choses to shoot themselves qualify under this act? Think of it -- shoot yourseolf in the leg, a check comes in the mail. Shoot yourself in the other leg, a check comes in the mail. Wound yourself badly enough to be a gimp with a limp for life and maybe a lifetime of checks comes with it.

Is it just me, but wouldn't make more sense to have the people who COMMIT the crime pay retrobution? Say every violent offender gets hit with a monitary fine and the prison term? If a BG shoots a store clerk, his assets are seized (car, cloths, gold chains everything) and sold at faior market value. These proceeds would then be assigned to a trust fund to help the trauma centers. Then while in prison, they make products that are sold to the general public. Again, the money goes into the fund. Is this too much for those idiots who make the laws to wrap their brains around? Or are the criminals just victims of our sulture also? Hell sell the guns they used in the crime, if they comply with federal law.

Oh yes, everytime a Mexican commits a crime in the USA, send a bill to the Mexican government. Imagine what a stink that would cause. :scrutiny:

Don't you know any better than to suggest something that makes sense when referring to CA?:p

Look on the bright side, someday Governor Vincente Fox may veto this.

Dogsoldier,

the PRK only really has 2 problems:

LA
SF

If you got rid of both, then it's a great state!

But the liberals up there in Berkeley, think and vote for this, and then when 9/11 happens, they call me up and ask to borrow a gun.. and are surprised that the 10 day waiting period they voted for hinders their ability to secure their homes in case of an emergancy..

Here's what I predict..

If this thing passes, people won't sell ammo to the people in the PRK, the people in the PRK will sue, and win for geographic discrimination..:banghead: :barf:

The 5 cent tax died, but it's the PRK and so if a 5 cent tax dies, a 10 cent one might pass..

If that's the case, let's see..

A box of .22LR will be the most expensive ammo in the rack..

If if passes and the people of the PRK sue, the "fee" will be upheld by the State Supreme Court. If it goes to federal court, the 9th will uphold it. Your best option is to have the San Andreas Fault break from LA all the way up through San Francisco and wash the liberals out to sea. :D

Dogsoldier,

Don't you know that 'liberals' (there is something very wrong about that label) always protect the downtrodden classes, even going to the extent of creating one if one does not exist? And we know that criminals are the major victims of police brutality and, therefore, downtrodden.
