Caliber consolidation?

I'm down to these chamberings:

9mm (1)
357Mag (2)
40S&W (2)
44Mag (1)
45ACP (1)

Nothing too weird, if I had to lose one I guess it would be the 9mm. But it's just so cheap to shoot.

If I only viewed pistols as defensive weopons, then I would consoldate on a caliber and/or a platform. But since I mainly view them as fun, but also carry, I like to have lots of different stuff. Personally I think that I am too consolidated because I only have pistols of the following chamberings:

.22 LR
.22 WMR
.25 ACP
.32 ACP
.380 ACP
9mm Para
.38 Special
.357 Magnum
.44 Magnum
.45 ACP

Eh, I consolidated calibers a few years back. All of my rimfires are in .22lr, all of my autos are in 9mm, and all of my revolvers are in .45LC. Although, I am looking for a nice 9mm revolver. One of those new Taurus guns would be nice, if I could find one without the porting.

I tried consolidating several years ago-- planned to get rid of my only 9mm and focus on large bore handguns. Traded a Beretta 92 with preban mags in partial payment on a Ruger Ranch Rifle (thought I wanted one at the time). Boy, do I sorely miss that preban 9mm!

I have tried this many times over the years and always end up buying some odd ball caliber gun! Hey, variety is the spice of life, so don't beat yourself up too badly when you can't stick to just one, two, three, four or more 'standard' calibers!

I like a variety. I have 4 handguns that can shoot 6 differant cartridges.

Buckmark 5.5 target - .22 LR
Taurus 669 - .38 Special and .357 Mag
Glock 24P - .40 S&W (want to get a KKM .357 Sig barrel for it but haven't yet)
Desert Eagle - .50 AE and just picked up a .44 Mag barrel for it recently.

Next handgun purchases I plan on making are a CZ-97B in .45 ACP and a CZ-75B Compact in 9MM. Need something to do with all my salvaged range brass ;)

Right now I only have .45 ACP and 9mm...

I plan on the following as well...

.357 sig

10mm if HK or SIG ever make one(so no 10mm for me)

And most likely one day I'll buy a desert eagle, havent decided on the caliber yet though. Probably .50AE :)

When I first re-entered the world of shooting sports I ended up with (in a short amount of time) 9mm, .45, .32, .22, 38 spcl/.357 mag, .380. Now I'm down to .22 (cheaper between paydays an plain fun), 9mm (cheapest center fire so I can practice, practice, practice-and plain fun), and .38/.357 because revolvers are cool. I'm always torn between practical and frivolous. Since concealed carry didn't pass here, I modified my collection a bit and dumped many of my non-range-sized guns.

Relatively consolidated

Handguns:
22LR (1)
45 ACP (2)
45 Colt (3)
.36 (1)
but will probably add a 7.62x25 and 9x19 in the near future

Rifles
22 LR (1)
45 Colt (1)
7.62x39 (1)
7.62x51 (3)
45-70 (1)
but will probably add a 7.62x54R, 7mm Rem Mag and 5.56x45 sometime in the future

I consolidated. Now I only have:
.44 Magnum
.357 Magnum
.45ACP
.45 Colt
.44 Special
10mm Auto
.44-40
.41 Magnum
.38 Special
.32 S&W Long
.22LR
.38-40
.32 H&R Magnum
7.62x38 Nagant
.32ACP
.25ACP
.40 S&W
.38 Super

I got rid of 9mm! :)

(Hmmm... It appears I inadvertantly got rid of .22 Magnum, too. I need a gun to go with this box of shells... :uhoh: )

i'try to limit myself to calibers,i,reload.

then find the one recipe that is good for that particular caliber
and/or that particular firearm.

as of now;

9mm-2

357-3

44mag-4

45acp-4

223-5

308-3

but,i'm silly like that:neener:

clown

Caliber consolidation doesn't work for me

I'm a big 1911 and P7 fan so have multiples in 45ACP and 9mm.

SIG and USP in 45 and have the USP setup for 45 SMCs. Also have a SIG 229 in 40 & 357. Since I had the 229, might as well buy the little brother 239 and the fraternal twin the 228.

For those walks in the woods, I have a 44 mag and a 357 mag to choose from. EDC is a usually a 340 in 357 or a 642 in 38 (occasionally a P7 although less nowadays). More old S&Ws in 357 and 44 because I like them. Also have one of 44 Special 596 snubbies.

I have an old German Walther PPK in 380 that I don't shoot much. Along with a Colt Delta 10mm.

So how many calibers is that? 11? See, it just doesn't work - buy the guns you like for what you need to do with them.

I had it down to .45 ACP and .223 at one time, multiple copies of each. But I needed a .308. And a 22 rimfire... and a 12 gauge. Then, of course, I needed an elephant rifle - for Virginia - ...

i don't any two guns in the same caliber!

:uhoh:

well, actually I have a 10/22 and a MkII, both .22LR.

But you get the idea.

I don't see much point to caliber consolidation - variety is the spice of life.

If I HAD to choose I'd probably choose 9mm.........I have wittleded it down to 9mm and 357/38.At one point I had only 357's........then I dicovered the world of autos................

I am looking at reducing my number of calibers also. Ever since I've started reloading, I noticed I don't "need" other calibers. Then the word "need" in the gun world is kind of an oxymoron.

I find with reloading the .45 ACP I can go light and get less than 9mm recoil. I can go hot and get a decent 'boom'. Before I put my 2 9's up for sale I took them to the range with Wally World white box and some leftover ammo of all kinds. I found it less accurate and less fun than the .45 reloads, and I was able to make 'nicer' holes with the .452 diameter bullets.

I think I am going down to just a few calibers:
.45 ACP
9x18 - for my Makarov
.380 - for my pocket gun
.357 - for my revolver
.22 - its so cheap

.41 mag - I haven't decided. I got a .41 mag Redhawk for deer hunting this year, but I don't think I'll make it out so I may just sell it.

For shotguns:
12 ga.
.410 - grew up with one, will always have one.

That said, I understand you guys liking the variety. I kind of like the oddball calibers. Originally I wanted to own 1 of every caliber in pistols. But sometimes I see some of these calibers as a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

Anyway, have fun shooting whatever you want!

Yes.

5 handguns in one or the other double duty configurations.

.45acp/.460 rowland
.38/.357
