why is it that every "California Legal" 10 round mags i have only hold 9 rounds? Conspiracy? I believe it is.

It's your standard creeping incrementalism at work.

Next year, California happy lo-cap mags will still say 10 rounds, but be down to 8 (from this years 9).

Load them with 9 and let them sit. They should loosen up over time. A mag loader can also help.

Basically, if you can jam more than 10 rounds in, even breaking the mag in the process, CA will have grounds to go after the makers.

It has to do with design. I remember reading and heaving that the origional M16 issued durring the early parts of vietnam, the same one without a plated recieaver, came with a 20 round mag that you could never put more then about 16 rounds in.

My recomendation would be either load it and allow it to sit to try and wear the spring down a bit or if you can disasemble the mag and out it back together you could maybe try cliping a little off the end of the spring. Do it a very little at a time and you might have to disasemble modify assemble and test several times to get it right but its better doing little by little then ruining a mag. I don't have a ton of experience with mags but seems like it should work.

it's not really a big deal to me, i was just curious. however, my CZ mags and M1 Carbine 10 rounders only allow 9 rounds.

Hm, my Walther P99's 10 round magazines (.40 S&W) and 1911's 10 round mags all hold a full 10 without effort.

Maybe it's just modified normal-capacity magazines, the kinds with baseplates modified to take up internal space and prevent the full number of rounds for being loaded. Poor engineering solution for a legal problem not worth putting much effort into?

Neither my P99 nor my 1911 have bulky baseplates that take up internal space, the magazines for each are designed specifically to accept 10 rounds. They aren't modified 12 round or 15 round magazines with new baseplates.

the cz mags do have modified baseplates....the carbine mags don't. i'll try loading up the carbine mags and letting them sit to see if they loosen up a bit.

It could be that you just have to wear them in....
All three magazines for my XD-40 are made for 12rnds. At first all I could get to fit in it was nine..... But after having it for a few months, and loading, unloading and reloading, I can now get 12 in all three... although at times that last one is still a bit difficult.;)

How hard is it to just type California?:banghead:

"K" instead of "C" to indicate "Communism". Not "C" instead of "K" for "Kremlin". You see "Cremlin" just doesn't cut it. "Kapitol" is the proper spelling when referring to the state of "California".

Cz 10 rds

All my CZ 10 rounders need a loader to get that last round in at first. They will lighten.

Then why does your Location say PRK??

Owned!

It is easy to spell California - about as easy as it was to move from there! Unless you try to spell it like Ahhhnold says it.

I only have 2 semiautos with 10rd capacity and have always been able to load all ten. Granted a few of the G23 mags were pretty darn tight, though.

The thing that puzzles the crap out of me is the purpose of this ludicrous legislation??? I mean, I can have as many 10rd mags for a given weapon as I want, and (for now) can freely buy and stockpile ammo, but I can't have one mag that holds > 10 rds? What brain surgeon made this crap up??? :cuss:

Just recently went to the range to compare my HK with G19.
My clips took all 10 rounds, but G19 - only 9 :p

And again, for me 10 round - just fine - as I can change them in less than 4 sec
