California AR?

It's for real, the guy who designed and builds them is on www.calguns.net occasionally talking about his design.

It's scheduled for possible comercial release as of 01/02/07

its a good idea.
 
Don't get too worked up by the re-wording of CA law, it's not as bad as you think.

Wont matter though when they pass the new wording about detacheable magazines.

Fortunately, that's not true.

It's my understanding that the new wording will be to close the loophole that allows AR-15s with pistol grips that need a tool to remove the magazine.

Since the BSR-15 will not have a pistol grip, which is an 'evil' feature here in California, it may have a detatchable magazine that holds up to 10 rounds.

The BSR-15, Mini-14, Mini-30, and SU-16 series rifles which do not have 'evil' features will all be unaffected by the 'rewording' of the law.

Pistol-gripped AR-15s with the kit that requires use of a tool to remove the magazine and SKS rifles (with bayonets, which is an 'evil' feature) will be affected.

Please don't take my comments here to mean I support the proposed re-wording of the law. I am fundamentally opposed to firearms regulation and completely support the second amendment to the constitution as it was written.

In the current laws, California does not consider a bayonet or a bayonet lug an evil feature, while the federal AWB did. Does the proposed law change the list of characteristics that define an assault weapon to add a bayonet or bayonet lug?
 
I think it looks cooler than a regular AR. They should have a photo of one with a traditional upper. With a gas piston upper you would really have something. I think that something would be called an SU16.

If this does indeed take standard AR uppers, then the modularity of this far surpasses that of the SU-16. There are many, many, many different AR uppers on the market. Whereas I believe the SU has a half-dozen variants, and some bolt-on accessories.

Nothing against the SU, but this AR would be a huge step in the right direction for CA. Tragic that it's even necessary in the first place, but you can't keep a good man down.

This is what caused me to question whether it was real or not. I read somewhere that it uses a modified FAL gas system(?) or some such.
 
Well it can't be very modular if it changes the gas system since the gas system is in the upper, not the lower. Something similar that could take a normal AR upper would be a huge seller in California I bet.

They use a recoil spring inside the buttstock similar to a FAL or Benelli. That requires a modified bolt carrier, but the rest of the upper is pure AR-15.

Yes, it would be a big seller in CA. I know I'd buy a couple or five.

We are a small company trying to start in CA. The inventor is an avid 3 gunner and was sick and tired of losing the carbine portion to those guys with grandfathered ARs, so he decided to make an AR that CA compliant yet more importantly offers the modularity and accuracy like the AR.

This is his baby. No formal testing has yet been done, but he has won a couple of his 3 gun shoots since using the BSR-15.

We are in the process of finding manufactors to produce the receivers and will be offering whole guns. No word on pricing yet, as we're still trying to crunch numbers.

Oh...a BSR-10 (.308) is in the works, but is about a year or two down the line.

Lastly, not all of us like plastic on our guns...Not putting down the SU-16, it's a good gun, but it can't change uppers by popping two pins out. And I'm definitly biased, but this just looks better and more EVIL.:evil: :evil:

As is well known to the directors of the VPC and the Brady Center, a comb stock is far less dangerous to public order than a pistol grip. Not only will Blackstar shooters be able to legally enjoy all the functionality of an AR-15 rifle, but they will be able to sleep better at night knowing their use of a dolphin-friendly traditional comb stock must result in far less injury, death and carnage than would be caused by a pistol grip stock. And fewer dead kittens
