Every time you walk into a gun shop in California looking for an older Smith & Wesson revolver - this is the gun you are hoping is in the case. It's hard enough to find a pre-lock 686 or even Model 10 out here in CA, let alone a 27-2 -- let alone one unfired with presentation box, unused tools, and mint papers. I don't get to bring it home for 10 days, but I am walking on air. The blueing is 100% and the lockup was as tighter than any I have ever felt. Hooray for me! :)

Beautiful.

I have the working man's version of that gun in a 6" Model 28-2 and absolutely love it. It's my best shooting handgun and feels great. It's not nearly as lovely as that though.

10 days... unbelievable...

You don't know the half of it. You should have seen the 10 pages of paperwork that took us 45 minutes to complete just to do a private-party-transfer! We got it bad in California - BAD.

Nice find. Will it be a shooter or a safe queen?

I've never believed in safe queens -- but then again I've never had one that is genuinely worthy. Kinda changes your perspective a bit when you have one.

That said, I will definitely shoot it, but probably wait for a special occasion before the first time. No way did I pay for the privilege of being a caretaker for someone else's shooter. Besides, I have several old blue Smiths that I have shot the high holy hell out of - and if you take care of them they still look virtually new.

That is a beautiful specimen of an Model 27-2 6" revolver! Now you know how I felt upon discovering the following pictured Nickel 5" Model 27-2 in the San Francisco east bay region recently!:

Well, I hope you didn't pay over $300.00 for it. It didn't sell for that New, did it, and you are the second buyer....

I have a friend with a mint 27 6",blue box,Ca.
He is talking about selling. What is real but fair price range?
Thank You for help.

Here's one you could have had from Oklahoma

Oh yeah guys..Check out this 27-2 transition gun from 1982. Recessed but not pinned. All 8-3/8" of nickel plated joy. From Tulsa Oklahoma. It may have been shot before I had it but probably not much since the cylinders were so clean. I was proud to take it out and put 150 rounds through it. The K-22 I have is a safe queen but this gun just screamed "shoot me!!". Came with papers and tools, but an all blue box with no label that I'm not sure was original.
When I saw it on Gunbroker I had to make the drive to Tulsa! Well worth it.

Yeah, that was funny.

Yeah, that one was funny. Shame he was almost right.

It is a nice re-bluing though. I traded that one for a new Model 29 in a presentation box a few years back. The holster wear was really starting to show on the cylinder and barrel. Working in the north woods of Wisconsin, I found I could use more gun than a .357, especially when having to dispatch wildlife or dairy cows injured from traffic accidents.

Always wondered where it wound up.

The Doc is out now.
