I am fully aware of the restrictions on firearms and what they are intended to do in California. What I would like to know is what the state did when they enacted these laws. Were the people that owned "assault" weapons and high capacity magazines required to turn them in? Did the state pay fair compensation for the confiscation of this property? Did the laws apply to new residents and / or firearms purchased beyond a certain date only? Did the police just start showing up at people's doors demanding certain weapons? I know it's painful but with our current political climate, and knowing how the laws in some states are used to pattern other laws, I'm trying get an idea of what the worst case might look like if Hillary gets elected.

None of the above, primarily because there were no records.

CA transfer process (DROS) did not submit make/model/caliber information to the state database (AFS) before 2014. And there still are no records of magazine purchases.

However ... it might be the case that CA-DOJ might make a persuasive argument that a handgun registration would be probable cause to search for long guns.
