requiring background checks for ammunition purchases.
Just great another fee we can pay to the State to give away or waste in some other way.
The state is already using money from the old "Handgun Safety Certificates" for uses that are against what the law says they can be used for.

What we really need to get on the ballot in CA is some way to get the State to split its Electoral votes based on popular vote.
CA has 55 more than any other State in the nation and it seems like lately they all end up going to anti gun candidates.
They should be split fairly by popular vote with the winner getting any round up the the higher electoral vote.

Somehow CA voters need to get an initiative on the ballot to do this.
(In CA voters can but stuff on the ballot, a lot of it is just plain dumb, poorly written etc, but sometimes good things come from it)
I feel like my vote (as well as others votes) for President is thrown away in CA. Yes I still vote.

I hate to suggest any changes to the Constitution but maybe its time to change it to elect the President by popular vote.
I can understand the need for the Electoral College years ago but in this day and age I feel it is not longer needed.

Born there and learned to shoot at the Cotati Rod and Gun Club youth shooting club.
But I joined the Navy and left in 73. Been back for 6 visits, 1 funeral and a wedding since.
It was a nice state once but, sadly, I fear it is now occupied territory. Much like France was under the Vichy...

Newsom said elements of the measure, some of which were unable to pass via the legislative process, would be strongly supported by California voters.
It will also be strongly opposed by California voters. If we can get rural Californians to vote, we can defeat this. The problem is the millions of anti's in S.F. & L.A. are more likely to come out in droves to vote for this measure that will do nothing to make them safer.

I've lived in Northern California my entire life. It has it's good points but it looks like it's time to find some new digs.

I don't have much long term optimism for CA. It is on an unsustainable trajectory in many areas.

New York state tried this just a few years ago with their SAFE Act. The plan was to make the NICS do the background check. That didn't go over so well with the feds so NYs changed its mind and decided ammo background checks weren't a top priority, currently.

Unless CA is willing to have their own state system devoted just for ammo, this wouldn't last very long either.

Just whom is going to do these background checks? State of Fed gov.

It will be a state law. The state will have setup the checks, even if the feds cooperate. Of course, an activist president may off the the feds service.

California has its own background check system already in place. It's a good guess that they'll use it for ammo also, although I think they'll be surprised how much volume that'll generate.
