Well it's getting to be that time of year again I find I'm getting bored I cleaned,shot,cleaned and repeated about billion times so that must mean only one thing folks COON SEASON is near it comes in nov 5 in my state. I'm curious to see what others use as there coon guns. My personal choices are a marlin 60 100_0405.jpg
and a winchester 74 100_0376.jpg
So folks lets see your favorite coon gun.

That I can recall, I've killed several with whatever .22 I had at the time, a couple with an NAA mini revolver, one with a 9mm Kel Tec P11. :D

My favorite hunting .22 is a Remington M512X bolt gun I got for my ninth birthday, but I just got this .22 mag M597 magnum a while back that's pretty danged neat.

Savage Shooter you're my idol! The rest of you guys thats never ate Bar B Qed coon don't know what you'er missing. ( And it do'nt taste like chicken HA HA ) My most favorite coon huntin gun is my Nylon 66. She's taken about 2800 coon now. Hope everyone has a safe and plentifull season. ( hides are to be 25-50 dollars this year fully prime)

I hunted them for years with a Ruger Standard semi .22 cal pistol. The sights are still painted white for the night shooting. We'd squal them and when they looked down, the flashlight would light up their eyes.

Savage Shooter my older brother use to have a Win 74 when I was a kid. Don't know if he sold or traded it off. Really liked that one. Think I've had at least 5 or 6 of thoes Marlins at some time or another. Both are fine 22 rifles.
To NonConformist, North American Fur Auctions buys and sells millions of dollars of wild furs a year to forgien buyers, from China,Russia,Iatly,Greece,Germany,etc. I think this year will just like back in the late 70's, another fur boom. JMO

Fur prices.

Hey there;
We have talked about this before. Where in the world are you getting 25 to 50.00 for hides ?
I can not find that anywhere..

Please let me know , it would be worth the drive.

Wildfire, I must have missed out on the discussions of fur prices that you are refering to. Sorry. Anyway ONE of my source's for seting my fur purchase prices is FUR-FISH-GAME magazine. The Fur Market Report section states that tops of $40-$50 for good prime northern coon can be expected this season. Wild mink might bring $15-$20 for prime males. 10-15 of then would be good on a fur check for me just befor Christmas.

Thanks.

Hey There ;
Yes , The check will be nice.
I will be trapping a lot more this year. We have a coon problem and I will be taking care of it very soon. Thank You.

Ok wildfire heres the big deep dark secret (not really secret):D GROENEWOLD FUR & WOOL CO. one of the largest fur buyers in the U.S. they have several state radius and pay good money. Check out there routes in TRAPPER & PREDATOR CALLER or there website www.gfwco.com.

Something keeps drawing me back here.

G. F. & W. Co. comes to Als Sporting Goods store on Sat. afternoons after hunting and trapping seasons starts. Some of the horrible things I see there makes me sick. People who sdould know better kicking and slideing coons, coyotes, beaver along on the parking lot ground. ??? ***???
Then these same people want top dollar for there hides. Go figure! Last year , I averaged on one lot of coon hides $33.00! On a later shipment my overall average was $27.80. Believe me you won't get an overall average like that from G. F. & W. Co.

Oh yah, Als is in Galesburg Ill. and I put up all my own fur and ship to North American Fur Auctions. If you are willing to wait for your money this is the only way to go.

Now you're talking! Whoever said 13 is an unlucky number?! I will likely carry the Savage Mark II this season, for all of my night time hunts.

My uncle lives up there abouts somewhere he works up in the railyard up there.
I get good money for mine better than any of the country buyers pay I don't have the time or space to flesh mine out and dry them and ship them to canada i like my money now.

I fully understand S. S.. I use to be that same way, but guess times have changed for me . Not in much of a hurry now days, but can still scrape 20-25 coon in an evening if I have to.

Coon Gun???

Mostly I use a 2007 Ford Expedition to hit the buggers as they scurry from trash cans and garbage left by people at the local campgrounds and picnic areas, (I have a job where I drive a lot after dark in these type of areas).
Here in Utah, raccoons are not native and have become a nuisance. They are responsible for the decline in pheasants and other upland game birds.
