Can anyone get primers..anywhere??

If you are willing to pay the HazMat fee (and assuming I can ship them legally, and I haven't checked on this yet) I will buy them for you and ship them to you. No charge at all on my end, you pay actual price for primers and shipping.

Unless you are haz-mat certified, then you cannot ship primers (or powder) to anyone even if you are willing to pay the extra $20. From what I recall, you really don't want to get caught trying to ship haz-mat. DOT takes a very dim view of that.

Loaded ammo is different. Anyone can ship that by ground with either UPS or Fedex and there are no extra costs. The outside of the package does have to be marked "ORM-D" and "cartridges, small arms". I've done it several times. Loaded ammo is much safer to transport than bulk powder or primers.

I just bought my first reloader setup and can't find small rifle primers anywhere. It's kind of hard looking at all this brass and not being able to do anything with it. Anyone in NC have any sources?

I've been to 3-4 local gun shop in the last week or two just poking around, all have plenty of small/large rifle/pistol primers in stock. We also have a Grafs and Cabelas here in St Louis, and both are always full of primers. I don't get why people keep saying they can't find primers, I bet if you ordered through Grafs website they'd ship in a couple days max.

Afraid I have to respectfully disagree with that, at least technically. I've conducted DOT HazMat training for 20 years and although 49 CFR is hopelessly complicated, my understanding is ORM-D materials are still DOT hazardous materials, and anyone engaged in shipping them are still required to have (a) hazmat general awareness training, (b) hazmat transportation function-specific training, (c) hazmat safety training, and (d) hazmat security training every three years.

As long as the ORM-D shipment is reasonably packaged & labeled according to 49 CFR 172.101, then it is unlikely UPS will ask for proof of legal hazmat transportation training when you take it to them, however.

Just my 2 cents.

Well, that Cabelas order just got bumped out another month. :(

And my turret press is on backorder too. :( :(

Went to a local Gander Mountain last week.

I could buy only CCI BR2 Benchrest Large Rifle Primers.

There were oodles of Small Rifle Primers, and of course Shotgun and Small/Large Pistol Primers.

There were no plain vanilla Large Rifle primers or Large Rifle Magnum primers of any brand sitting on the shelves, save for the CCI Benchrest.

Since I have several precision bolt rifles that don't mind shooting BR2 primers, I bought 2000 of them.

Sign of the times, as it were... :(

I ship completed ammo and primed brass all the time via UPS. It's properly labeled as ORM-D, etc. No problems, whatsoever.

All the big-box retailers in my area are sold out, but some of the smaller shops have various primers in stock. Yesterday, I scored 1,000 large pistol primers at a small shop I visited while traveling accross the state for work. They limited customers to 1,000 primers per day, which I thought was a nice way to reduce hoarding and keep their customer base happy.

I paid 60 Euros for 1000 BR2 primers..a couple of weeks ago in France.
A year ago I paid 30 Euros..for the same.
Butterfly effect.

I just ordered 2k large pistol and 2k small pistol winchester's from cabelas. Ordered on sunday, they SAY it should be here by next wednesday. I'm kinda lookin forward to starting reloading too. BTW they were around $30/k plus the $20 HazMat fee. They were the only website I saw that could get them. Midway-who gets most of my business-was all sold out with NO backorder!

Seems like now,it's 'hit or miss' Few weeks ago ordered some 5000 CCI Small Pistol from Powder Valley along with some powder;and last week they had some Federal Small Pistol so ordered a 1000 of those..Just check the site and they are out again..They seem to be catching up with orders now so keep checking, for sure they keep getting more inventory www.powdervalleyinc.com They are great to deal with and well pleased with the order process and decent prices First order came in 10 days and second order about ready to be shipped after ordering last friday

I just checked and they didn't show anything in stock other than some shotgun primers and some Wolf large pistol primers.

You guys are fast!

I just got back from a local "Mom and Pop" gunstore and all he had was:

Pistol: large and small magnum
Rifle: Ditto

He had a full selection of all Flavors when I was in last week, Probably about 30 cases at 5K per. Most are gone now.

I asked him were they all went and he said that he's sold 250-300 CASES since November!
I'm glad I have about 15K at hand.

I ordered 5000 small pistol and four pounds of powder from Powder Valley on Saturday. I got an e-mail today saying the order had shipped. I ordered Federal, but let them know via e-mail that Remington would be fine too if there Federal were out of stock when they processed my order. Both were showing in stock when I placed the order.

I don't know which brand they shipped, I guess I'll know when the package arrives.

Yup...Restocked all my needed primers today. Had to wonder all over Springfield, MO. But I found them. Found all my powders except W-748. Had to order (stand in line) it...By the way...If you need CCI-300 (large pistol). Bass Pro has one box of 1,000. That is if you want to pay $54.00 for them. I was still laughing when I left the store...Found a 1,000 for $26.00.

Went to my local hole in the wall LGS today and his reloading section was fully stocked with Federal and CCI in standard and match in all sizes. Had a full rack of powder as well.

Gander Mountain in Aurora, CO has Large Pistol/Magnum (CCI, Rem, Winchester) and Small Piston/Magnum (CCI, Rem, Winchester).

The situation isn't good, but it's not impossible to find primers and powder. I make the "rounds" of three semi-local shops every time I go into town - sometimes I find primers, sometimes I don't. Took the wife to the airport last Friday and stopped in Cabella's on the way home - scored 4,000 pistol primers.

Keep looking, they are to be found.

Looking for small & large rifle in particular. PM me PLEASE!!!

I just bought 5k of each. I'm in Utah. Not sure where you are located, but I haven't had issues buying it. And this is from a small shop - not a bigger retailer.

I won't rub salt in the wound and tell you the prices I paid.

Hey all - I kind of lost track of this thread, sorry - thanks for the replies and offers to ship. I don't want anyone to get in trouble trying to help me out but I appreciate the offers. At least I can see it's not just me having trouble. I'm in NJ and for now I've decided to just wait it out. I'm sure they'll start to show up again soon. (as soon as the rest of all you guys stop buying them!!!!! :cuss:) Just kidding.. but thanks..I think the posts are helping out a lot of other people in the mean time.

I found a local shop that has 5-6k of both large pistol and rifle Wolf primers, $20/k.
Picked up 1k of the LP, so one less on the shelf now!

The same shop also keeps a fairly good stock of mil-surplus in various calibers, if you want to shoot it first, and potentially be able to reload the brass. (Who knows what's berdan primed in half of it!)

I just bought 1500 Federal small pistol primers today from a local shop. They also had large pistol, and rifle primers. No CCI small pistol primers though so I had to get Federal. THey seemed pretty well stocked on powder too. Hopefully the situation will get better and not worse. I have about 2000 primers, about as much brass, and 3 lbs of powder. That will tide me over a little while but eventually I'll need more.

primers

powder valley has the cci pistol but they do not look to have anything in 5k packages.
