Can anyone identify this fantasy knife ?

A little backstory. Several years ago, the woman I was dating at the time took a lot of trips back and forth between New York and France. One one such trip she returned with this in hand as a gift for me. It isn't of particularly high quality, and clearly is intended as a show piece. I've never been into the "fantasy" stuff personally, but I've gotten plenty of catalogs and seen plenty of knife websites. I've never seen this one in any of that media. The only marking on the knife is the word "stainless" in small lettering on the unpictured side. It also came with some kind of wooden display stand. Can you identify it ?

Hmm, interesting. Its very similar, other than some differences in the handle. I wonder if mine is a knock-off. Or perhaps an early version or something.

It's not though , thats the thing. If you compare the two, there are some pretty distinct differences on the handle.

Heres two in the same size for a side by side. You can easily see the differences.

Usually the knife maker will have a signature on the blade, if it just says "stainless" it might be a chinese or other knockoff.

just out of curiosity, do people carry fantasy knives, or are they just for show.

I've seen them at Ren fests, but never got the point.... I was always wondering why there was such a crowd around the table selling them?

I guess I'm just of the opinion that if I'm going to buy a knife... it better darn well be useful.

Show maybe? I always like the looks of some of the Hibben knives, but I wouldn't use them for anything.

heh, I don't know Economist. I trained in martial arts which include knife fighting for many years (mainly Filipino, but also Brazilian and Russian), and I would certainly hope no one would carry something like that. I've never seen a 'fantasy' knife that was up to the task for a variety of reasons. I wouldn't even ever buy one intentionally, but like I mentioned in the first post this one was a gift.

Oh, and as far as the knife in question .. yeah , I think it's fair to say that it's a knock off of the Kit Rae version. Maybe I'll think up some kind of contest to give it away here on THR .. I don't really have a use or place for it.
