 I'm completely oblivious to the rules and regulations of pre ban post ban, and all that stuff. But I shot a ar-15 a few months ago with a guy who had one before the ban and I was hooked. They are accurate, fun and I want one. Now that the ban is lifted can I get one? If so, where and how? Please help me find out before they put the ban back on. I don't want to miss this window.

Thanx:)

Depends on where you live... In most free states, you can buy darn near anything. The states which restrict purchases tend to have higher crime problems.... You do the figuring.

And, for what it's worth, you could have bought one BEFORE the AWB sunsetted... It just wouldn't have been capable of such dastardly acts as drive-by-bayonettings or the evil flash hiding...

Fact is, you could have bought one during the ban.

You would have had to find one manufactured before the ban went into effect. They were "grandfathered in" as being legal. The problem was that the price skyrocketed. The problem has never been finding one, it has been paying for one.

My AR is probably worth 1/3 of what it was worth yesterday, but that's okay with me.

Go to your local gun store. Most pawn shops will have them too.

Sorry, you can't buy an AR-15 of any sort in California. They're banned by name here. And no out of state retailer will sell you one, either, so no driving to Nevada. Gun shows are a no-go, and you can't get one on Gunbroker because no dealer in this state will transfer it, and...

You get the idea. They're banned in this state. Sorry.

You can also buy the Kel-Tec SU-16, a nice number in .223, pretty close to an AR in some respects.

Oh yeah, you can get an SKS here in CA - they modify the grenade launcher to make sure you don't storm the capital, but otherwise...

I've seen modified versions of ARs for sale. They hold a 10 round magazine internally to reload you pop open the upper unit pull out the old magazine (I'm not making this up) and drop in a new one. A few Hog hunting compadre's of mine are interested in one of these chambered in .50 Beowolf.
