I live in CA and I am wondering what laws there are reguarding me carrying at home. I have looked and have found little. I live in an apartment complex which makes me wonder if I am even allowed to have a gun here. Can I carry so long as it is open and only on/in my appartment bounderies? Am I banned to carry at all? Any info or direction will be a great help.
Thanks.

Open carry is a bad idea, I don't care about the law. That is just asking for trouble.

If you not permitted to CC in the building due to law or regulation, but you feel you have to, well, make your own call on that one.

Frankly, if I lived in a building where I felt my life was endangered getting the mail, I might consider moving.

Mike, only carry INSIDE your home with the curtains closed. Carrying outside your home to take out the trash is a NO-NO.

Also, I'd suggest you click on my signature to find out more about our crazy laws.

Its a risky thing here in Illinois. Sad to say I no longer feel that I am in the land of the free. I would conceal it in my apartment and not do it on the grounds of your building as that maybe come a little gray legally.

As long as you are in your own dwelling, you're okay. I sometimes carry at home while breaking in a new holster...but that's just me ;)

i dont understand this mindset at all. i live in one of the most crime free areas of the country and yet i carry any time i can legally do so without exception, to include in my home and around my yard. i dont carry because i fear my life is in danger, i carry to eliminate vulnerability.

Really? I was under the impression that as long as it was your private property or place of business, you were good. Obviously, if you live in an apartment, this only applies to the immediate confines of your apartment and not the rest of the building. However, in the case of a house or larger property, you can carry througout the property, up to the limit of city/public property.

Thanks for the replies. I don't have a CCW nor do I think I have a prayer of getting one here in CA. I am just talking about inside my apartment with the curtains closed. I am trying to carry as much as I can legally, and the way I understood it (with what little info I found) is that while inside my apartment, I could open carry a loaded firearm, but nothing more...nothing outside my apartment/home or concealed. The apartments I live in are nice, but my city is going downhill at an alarming rate with home invasion on the exteme rise, so I am trying to be as prepared as legally possible. Thanks again for the replies and link, they have been a great help.

CCW in CA is possible. Click on Count Glockula's link to a great concealed carry forum for Californians.

As to you question, only place you can carry concealed or openly is in the confines of your apartment. Can't step outside past your doors with a gun unless it's unloaded and locked in a case and you're on your way to the range.

Mike (30-06 lover) as another tid bit: I'd HIGHLY recommend taking some self-defense handgun courses.

Not sure if you've already taken them already, but it's good to work your way to advanced and be better prepared. Good luck to you my friend and don't give up hope on CCW in CA!
