I am planning to load Berry's 124gr HP using WSF. I know to use upper lead to mid range jacketed load data. Using the Lee Auto Disk, as most know, it is hard to do minor adjustments to the throw.

I can get 4.8 gr of WSF on a consistant basis. I just worry that this is too high. OAL I will set at max to work in my barrel by doing gravity test.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Matt

From Hodgdon's load data site:

Barrel Length: 4"
Twist: 1:10" Trim Length: .750"
Primer: CCI 500
9mm Luger
Cartridge Load Data
Starting Loads Maximum Loads
Bullet Weight (Gr.) Powder Bullet Diam. C.O.L. Grs. Vel. (ft/s) Pressure Grs. Vel. (ft/s) Pressure
124 GR. FMJ WSF .355" 1.169" 4.7 1015 27,700 PSI 5.3 1115 32,700 PSI
124 GR. LEAD RN WSF .355" 1.169" 4.0 945 22,200 PSI 4.7 1055 27,300 PS

Assumed you meant for 9mm Lugar rounds since you said 124g. If not, nevermind.

Here's there website, its for Hodgdon, IMR and Winchester powders:

That is what I was basing my load on. I just wanted some folks who have been doing this longer than I to double check.

Thanks,
Matt

I'm not recommending it, but in case this gives you any meaningful data:

Using 3 different powders, I've pushed 124 gr Berry's bullets to max jacketed data in a stock Glock 19 with zero issues. The powders are HP38, Unique, and AutoComp. Yes, they are most assuredly shooting hotter than 124 gr MG jacketed bullets. I don't have a chronograph, but I can tell when the Berry's are breaking the sound barrier, and the same jacketed bullet loads are not. Yes, this makes them overpressure rounds. So I guess what I'm saying is that Berry's is capable of handling at least mild +P in this caliber/weight, if your gun can.

With Berrys Plated your looking at a range of 4.7 - 5.0 gr WSF.

My main load is 4.8gr WSF behind the 124gr RNDS. I've shoot 1000's without any issues. @ 4.7 i did not have very good slide action, so I bumped it to the 4.8gr.

Run 10 ea starting at 4.7, 4.8, 4.9 and 5.0 and see which one you like.

Leon- I consulted 3 different manuals and two websites. Sometimes though I like to hear it from the mouths of more experienced reloaders (friends) that this recipe will work.
My .02,
Thanks,
Matt

The Berrys 124 will handle 4.8 Grs WSF with no problem, assuming a reasonable OAL, like around 1.140 to 1.145. It will be a nice medium load. 1.169 is the SAMMI max, not an OAL recommendation. It may be too long for some guns.

just worry that this is too high. OAL I will set at max to work in my barrel by doing gravity test.

The oal you tested your bbl for is the only real question, because it will make a big difference, if you're shooting a CZ or an XD. CZ will only accept that bullet in the 1.05/1.06" ranges, AND NOT out to 1.1X".

I just put a few together. The OAL that appears to work in my M&P is 1.075. Any longer than that and they will not feed.

Funny you mentioned the CZ.....Shop just called to tell me mine was in. I am going to fire these few and check for pressure signs in the M&P before moving them to the CZ. This bullet may be a lost cause.
