It looks good for what it is, but it's not really worth much.

Unless you didn't make any permanent modifications to the gun, it's quite possibly worth less now than before. Sporterized Enfields are a dime a dozen, and with "drop in" and "no gunsmithing" parts, anyone can do much of the work, bringing down the value of your gun, IMO.

A truly nice sporterized Mauser is a sight to behold, but these "bubba-ed" guns with plastic stocks don't look very good... or command a big price.

I have no idea on price on such a firearm (I'm into modern handguns) but as far as

I'm gonna have to respectfully disagree and consider that a matter of personal taste. I think it looks much nicer now then with a wood stock. Everybodies tastes differ.

Welcome Pennington. You have done a good job of sporterizing that rifle. I am not sure of your intentions when you ask about worth. But IMO it has value as a shooter. Go out and put some rounds throught the pipe and have fun with it. Again welcome and I look forward to reading a range report.

Welcome,pfc.pennington.
I don't know what it's worth, but I shared your rank and the same piney woods locale, in the glory days of 1965.

Sorry,I got nostalgic.:)

thanks for your opinions, its going to be a shooter, it will be the one i take in to the woods next whitetail season. and i dont really no what i was looking for in worth. to me its priceless(gift from my father inlaw) thanks again AIRBORNE

I'm an Enfield shooter and collector so your probably not going to like this, but, that's a bubba Enfield. I've bought a couple that did not have the barrels or receivers cut or drilled and restored them. I never have or never will pay more then 100.00 for a sporterized Enfield.

I agree that it's a nice job. To denigrate it as being "bubba-ized" is unfair.

Depends on your point of view.

Sporterizing a military rifle is a legitimate way of making it more attractive and/or utilitarian.

Good Job! Very nice! I think it adds value, even if not to a dyed in the wool collector.

EDIT: Welcome to THR.

thanks jeff, it was just curiosity, i wouldnt dream of selling it. it is a great shooter and very reliable. and that is why i chose to do what i did to it. (hhc) 16th mp bde airborne

I love it

Dont listen to the gun snobs I would buy it off you, True officially it's retail value isn't much. But if you had a great bore I would pay plenty for it she is purty!!!

IMHO, don't listen to the "bubba" comments, apples and oranges.

Obviouslty, to sporterize a rare, historic, original rifle is a sin. But if you have a beat-up one--split stock, mismatched parts, damaged and repaired, anything that would make it lose it's appeal to collector's--theres absolutely nothing wrong with customizing it.

I am thinking of picking up several M44s (or M38s if I can find them) and keeping the nicest as a wall-hanger, the next one as a shooter in original condition, bayonet and all, and the least attractive one as a sporter, maybe a cheap scout rifle.

Different strokes for different folks. From what I can see, you've done a nice job. Did the stock come two-tone or did you refinish it?

Well done, Airborne!

I especially like that contrast. Looks like there's some texture to that stock--good traction to pull it in nice and tight. Have you bedded it? And, what caliber--.303, .308 or what?

The stock sock (ammo carrier) is a nice touch, but I personally would invest in a couple of more magazines for the rifle--more firepower.

Good work!

it does look quite nice, but you may get only about 175 or so bucks max out of it , at a gunshow. simply for someone looking for a low cost deer rifle.

Don'tlet the Bubba coments get to You.....

My Enfield is in origonal condition and I have no intention of changing it. I also have a great dislike of elitests. It's Your rifle, no one else owns it and this is a free country. Do as you please and to heck with the snobs...Essex
