Can I modify my Glock 22 RTF and make it a Glock 17?

I was told recently that Glock has stopped making the Glock 17 with the RTF. I have a Glock 22 with the RTF. I love the rough texture finish. Because I practice a lot, I was wondering if I could change out my 40 caliber barrel for a 9mm barrel. Thus, I could "in a way" make my own Glock 17 using my Glock 22 frame. Seems it would be cheaper to shoot than using 40 caliber reloads. I'm new to Shooting Sports so this may not make sense.
#1. Can I use the 22 and put a 9mm barrel in it
#2. If it's possible then my next question would be:
Will this require a special "compensated" magazine for such a makeover?

Would also love to hear of any recommendations RE: what barrel company to choose for buying a good high quality barrel?

I used Lone Wolf 40-9 barrels, they work very well. I didn't bother swapping the extractors or ejectors, since they were still full-time .40s, just used a 9mm magazine and called it good.

The 9mm stuff will be cheaper, but you'll have to shoot a good amount before you recover the cost of the new barrel and magazines.

I bought a Storm Lake conversion barrel and it works 100% and is very accurate. For total reliability you will as others have said need the G17 magazines. The ejectors are a bot different on the 17 and 22. This just causes the ejection pattern to not throw the cases in a perfect pile. Not a problem for using the barrel/magazines for cheap practice.

THANK you~!

Wow, this is my first post on THR and I was surprised to find all these great responses.
I have narrowed my choice for a barrel between Storm Lake Barrels and Lone Wolf Barrels. Thanks, Siglber and Jim W. Also, thank you for that link to the exact page on Lone Wolf Barrels for the Glock22 conversion to 9mm barrel, Jim Watson! I see on there that if you shoot reloads through them Lone Wolf will not warranty the product. Bummer, my husband is a reloader. Thank you, Jim W. for letting me know that a Glock 17 barrel will not fit my Glock 22.

I have a QUESTION:
Can I use my Glock 19 (9mm) mags for the set up I'm doing? Or do I need the Glock 17 mags or are they the same thing? (I know, I know...be patient w/ me!)
THANKS to all for your entering into my thread.

Hope to hear your comments. I am LEARNING.
:D
I see some of you have been in here for YEARS! ^5's to you.

I love CDNN, they rock.

Buy magazines from them first every time, unless someone else happens to have a killer deal on magazines instead (they never do, other people's sale prices usually don't beat CDNN regular price or CDNN service and the cool things they sometimes throw into the order)

Hey! Thanks for the URL to CDNN. I did go there and found that they only had the G17 mags in 17rd. I wrote them and ask if it's legal to ship this to CA and "NO" was the answer. They said they make a 10rd for the G22-9mm but they are out of them. Anyway, wanted to thank you, BDS for the heads up on CDNN. I see that they are a place I will be ordering from in the future, good prices, as you said. We use Natchez and Brownell's a lot.
I have yet to check out the Storm Lake site, will do that this weekend and then make my purchase. Can't wait to get a 9mm barrel or my G22!
I don't know how to close out this thread.
Thanks for all your kind help, everyone!
