Hello,

These front sights I'm making for the Mosin-Nagant (smith-sights.com) are turning out to be fairly popular.

There is a person in Italy that is really wanting one.

I am very leery of shipping a gun part to another country. I cannot find a list of what gun parts are banned for export to what countries.

Does anyone know where I can find this information?

Thank you,

Josh

Don't thank me until after you read all of it.... Reading the linked doc's is probably worse than being waterboarded.

It will probably be several orders of magnitude cheaper, and faster, to email him the drawings and have it machined over there rather than go through all the necessary steps to export "gun parts".

Your product isn't really readily apparent nor easily discernible as a firearms-specific item all by itself. Why not just label it some sort of widget for shipping purposes?

Better yet, make a special export kit containing the threaded sight post and locknut, as well as the required taps and drill bits to modify a sight. Call it the DIY kit. No way it's illegal to ship a couple drill bits and threaded bits of steel.

I would not ship that to Italy. Not just because it's a gun part. More because Italy has a notoriously awful postal system known for theft and lost parcels.

It's not worth your time man.

Hello,

I do not discuss profits, but it is small.

The idea is to end up with satisfied customers, and if I can do that world-wide, I will do so.

Turns out I cannot ship this (or typewriter ribbon!) to Italy.

Thanks!

Josh

There is a current controversy in Italy regarding the importation of military parts.

This is not the best resource, but go to this gun club and then click on the "Open Letter" in blue letters. http://www.lssa.us/Home.aspx

At this moment, other sources like this one http://www.armaiolibresciani.org/ (Note: This one is in Italian, you'll have to use the translation function to get the gist of it) deny that the allegations are true.

It may be legal to export from this country, but it may be illegal for the man to receive it on the other end. The picture is rather fuzzy, unless you find better (and official) confirmation.

NEITHER OF THESE TWO LINKS ARE LEGAL DOCUMENTS. YOU GOTTA DO MORE RESEARCH TO FIND OUT FOR SURE.
