Folks, I was looking at White Oak Armament's website and have a question about the different front sight post size and hood sizes. This is what they offer: Choice of .052", .062", or .072" NM front sight post
· Comes complete with three hoods, .038", .042", and .046"

Can some one explain the differences in size and how they pertain to each other?

It's all a matter of personal preference. I prefer the middle sized ones 90% of the time. The bigger aperature is nice when the lighting's not so good.

It all has to do with how well you see.

The larger front sight post allows easier focusing for 40 year old eyes like mine. Narrow front sights disappear into the target quickly for me.

The smaller hoods act as like a camera lens stopping down to bring the front sight in focus. The down side is it might not let enough light in on a cloudy day.

I suggest starting with the middle size front and rear if you see well. If you are young try the .038 hood first.

Thanks fellas. I appreciate the help. I do have bad eyesight, (wear glasses and safety glasses) unfotunately.

how are those diopters? I wear contacts but have to get a pair of prescription safety glasses and unfortunately my eyesight is a -7.

You really don't need special glasses as long as your current specs have a larger enough lens. Needs to cover your whole eye. Asked about it when I got glasses.

Well I had to get a eye glass prescription for work. Needless to say, I'm not too happy about it but since my company is paying for the glasses, I may be able to swing something. If not, I still need to get a good pair for shooting. I have noticed with contact lenses, I definitely have a harder time shooting versus when I wore glasses in the military.
