I have yet to see a box of this ammo on any local gunshop shelf!!!
I was wondering, what's the penetration and expansion of the round??
I mean, for lack of a better term, does the rubber boolet meet the FBI standards?
I'd like to try some of it out, but I'm not going to order some in if it's just a gimick like that Extreme whatever stuff that is so often bandied about here!! ;)

Does anybody actually use this stuff??

I have a feeling that this stuff will meet the FBI standards as from what i can see it was designed for hte US Military.

i really dont see a way in which the bullet can fail to expand, the design of it anyway should preclude failure to expand. although in tests ive seen it average about a .60 expanded diameter in the .45acp variations.

:DI love the way you spelled "boolet." That is pretty funny. I am not making fun of you, by any means. It is rather distinctive way of distinguishing our hobby.

So, I bought some ol 200+P EFMJ from ammoman a couple of years back. Nice ammo, shoots well; a little high for the weight. Into phone books, they expand as advertised. I bought them for my 1911s. Feeds well.

As it turned out, some internet articles were posted for some 9mm and maybe 45 that were used by the Detroit police in a shooting, and the bullet supposedly deformed and bounced, or some such thing.

I think these bullets are designed to behave like the sinterfire compressed copper or powdered metal. They just dump their energy as best as they can. I really do not think their penetration prowess can be counted.

In any event, the newer versions of EMFJ seem to take on LIGHTER bullet weights. I hears of something like 100gr in 9mm, and 165gr in 45, and there is the +P factor.

For what it is worth, that is all I know. I have the ammo, and I like enough for 1911s, and I still like the Winchester SXTs more.

I bought a box each of 9mm and .45 a few years ago. They were at normal velocities and expanded nicely in water. I don't know if they have a track record in real life shootings.

They Were Never Intended...

...to replace hollowpoints, only to offer an alternative to those who are not allowed to use them. There was some initial hope that they might offer a way around problems associated with hollow cavities getting plugged by cloth or barrier material but, from what I read over on Evan Marshall's forums, mostly from Evan himself, the EFMJ's have not performed well and those seeking a similar concept would be better served by Cor-Bon's Pow'R Ball.

From what I've seen, even the regular weight ones are inferior to JHPs in every possible way. They expand less reliably through heavy clothing (contrary to advertisements). They expand to a smaller diameter. They penetrate less.

If you're in a jurisdiction that forbids hollowpoints... personally, I'd just use FMJ then. At least you know what FMJ will do, and know they will penetrate adequately (and more), rather than worrying about inconsistent expansion and shallow penetration.

I tried a few of each when I got them. All expanded like they claimed. All ran just fine in my pistols. I load a few of them into my carry mags for the cold weather seasons. Figure I can count on them to work even with heavy coats that might mess with the normal HP loads. Never have had to put them to the test. At worse I'd expect them to work like FMJ or clogged HP loads.

It seems they have made changes since the first release. I was just checking the Federal web site and see they list 105/9mm, 135/40S&W and 165/45acp as the current loads, none are +P. I have 124+P/9mm, 165/40S&W and 200+P/45acp loads. When and why did they make the change? I don't think I'd even give these new lighter loads a chance with so many good choices of SD HP loads.
