I just purchased 2 15rd G22 mags and I couldn't fit 15 rounds in them. Even 14 rounds was a pain, but 15 seemed nigh impossible. After reading up on how to get the baseplates off :banghead: I pulled them apart and noticed that the mag springs are quite a bit longer than my other G22 mags'.
previous gen on the right, new mag on the left
Another recent gen mag of mine on the left for comparison... I have no trouble loading either of these with 15 rds. Note that the springs are about the same length.
I thought perhaps someone put .45 springs in my new ones, so I took one of my 13 rd G21 mags apart. .45 on the left, new .40 on the right. The springs are different but note the length is similar.
Soo.... did glock go to a longer mag spring on a certain run? Perhaps for "law enforcement/govt only"? Or did the PO install longer wolff springs or something?
After I reassembled these I was juuuuuust able to fit 15 rds in, but it took a bit of swearing. I pretty much had to stand on it to get it done.
I noticed that, using the mag loader, the round in the mag already points upward at a more extreme angle (the rear of the cartridge is pressed down into the mag, but the nose remains pointed upward more than when using the other mags). Getting that last round in was a bear.
Do you think this is a problem? Or should I just leave them fully loaded for a while and see if that helps?
I'm just curious why the change to the longer spring if indeed that was a glock change.
thanks
