Not sure yet, looks pretty beaten and bruised but I wouldn't mind re-finishing it for a project

Mossberg pumps do not have fixed barrels ? Hard to tell from the picture, but it is possible that it is a Hi-Standard and not a Mossberg. The 200 Series Hi-Standard look like the Mossbergs but had fixed barrels.

Either way the price is OK as long as it is in good working order.

ahh that is a possibility, maybe I can get the serial number on the phone, but if you look closely above the loading port it looks like it says "mossberg"

$150 for a beat up Mossy is a bit steep. Last one I picked up, I paid $100 plus shipping. It was in a lot better condition than that one appears to be in.

The "fixed" part....assume he means a fixed choke? That needs to be clarified.

Aside from the antique wood that one's sporting, there's nothing about it that would convince me to go $150. One has to remember, though, it's in Ak. Prices in Ak *always* go a minimum of 50% higher than normal.

for bear protection

I think I would spend a lot more. You are wanting protection right? Whats the diff in home protection and bear protection. I would hate for the beat up Mossy not to go boom when you need it too. I know I know a new one can have malfuntions but, would feel better with a new something new or great used!!!

$150 too much. I'd offer $100 and walk away if he doesn't take it. Pawn shops won't give him more than $75 for it if they want it at all. That said, you'll find better guns for less at the Pawn Shops usually, just have to make them an offer sometimes.

Think that you'll have to cut the barrel to make it useful. Where you located?

I am in Fairbanks, AK, I would probably shorten the barrel as well. I was gonna offer a little less too, but he hasn't called back yet.

There is a Ithica 12 Ga for $125 just popped uptoday,no pictures though...

i would look at the ithica over the mossberg if its in good shape =)

It's a wooden stock Mossberg. Those synthetic cheaper ones go for about that price, so for a decent gun, I'd pay $150. If it's rust-free and doesn't look too beaten or battered, just make sure the action is smooth...and I'd say talk him down to $125 and take it home.
