I'd like to find out if anyone knows whether U.S. law permits us to purchase a firearm directly from a gun dealer in another country and have it shipped to a U.S. located FFL holder.

I'm wanting to buy a Krico M301 22 LR bolt action rifle to use for silhouette shooting. The Krico's are not being made any more and I've not been able to find any new or used ones for sale thus far in the U.S., but have found some for sale in Austraila. I recently used one I borrowed from a friend to shoot in my first smallbore hunter silhouette match and won the unclassified division with it, so I'd kind of like to get one for myself.

I live in Iowa where handgun permits are valid in the entire state. In my county in iowa, there are no gun dealers. I would imagine it depends on the state.

EDIT: Sorry I thought you meant "county".

Regardless of what type of gun, it would have to meet all of the Federal import criteria and would have to be processed through an importer that's licensed to do so. Wouldn't be impossible to do but may not be worth the time and money....and would take a lot of time and money:(
