Well can you? I can't find any information on Ruger website. Why isn't this offered as an accessory? I started out with spurred but after some DA practice the spurless design seems more and more attractive. Can/should I just bob mine with the Dremel®?

If you bob yours, it will still be a DA/SA revolver with a hammer you can't cock safely. Ruger's spurless hammer is DA only. Ruger won't sell the hammer directly as a separate part; they want to "fit" the hammer to the gun. They will sell it to you, but only on a replacement basis, and you have to send the gun in for the installation ...

... which is silly, really. I wanted a spurless hammer like you. I posted a "want to buy" on about a dozen forums. Eventually, someone on AR15.com contacted me. He had a spurless hammer that he sold me. I dropped it into my SP101 and it functioned flawlessly as a DA-only revolver. So now I have both hammers and trade them out depending on how I'm feeling.

So look around, haunt the gun boards, and one will likely turn up eventually.

Thanks! I hadn't even thought about vestigial SA with bobbed hammer. I always thought "DA only" meant "because you can't cock it safely." But the factory bobbed hammer also eliminates the trigger staging? Is there a safe way to "bob" a spurred hammer to eliminate both the spur and whatever protrusion engages the SA mechanism?

Yup. There is no "cocked" postion on the factory-bobbed hammer. If you pull the trigger slightly so you can get a purchase on the bobbed hammer, then pull the hammer back fully, it won't stay there when released. I'd have to look at the two side by side to see what the specific differences are. Not at home at the moment, or I'd take a picture of the factory-bobbed hammer for you. Maybe I can get to that in a couple of days, if someone doesn't beat me to it.

It's pretty simple to bob a hammer with a Dremel. But if you do, grind down the S/A notch and make it D/A only. Trying to decock a spurless hammer is a real good way to put a hole in something that you really didn't want to shoot.

Most 'smiths will do it for about $25 to $30.
