So, who's the hotshot who can identify this piece? It's one of the several new guns I've uploaded to the web site (Forgotten Weapons) this evening (looking at the site before you figure it out is cheating!). :)

Yeah, maybe I should have said right off the bat that it's not an MG42...
 
Saginaw Steering Gear MG42 trail model in 30 government? t24?................. Baahah i know i am right i was reading the wiki mg42 article last week has to be that.
 
And that's why I like THR - the depth of knowledge. :)

It is, in fact, the US experimental version of the MG42 in .30-06 (aka T24). Here's another of this pictures I uploaded:

The distinguishing features you can see are the attachment points for the US tripod, the US-style rear sight, and the US bipod. Note the 1944 date on the caption.
