Quick noob question that I can't find an answer to: can you cut and sand down a synthetic stock? Is there any reasonable way of shaping a synthetic stock?

The only reason to sand a synthetic composite stock is to paint it. You can sand to try to reshape but you'll just probably F it up!! IMHO:D

Really depends on the stock as most are hollow and don't leave much grace room for shaping. It also depends on the type of plastic it's made of too as you wouldn't want to shape a rubber coated Hogue stock. If your just trying to smooth out some lines, then yes you likely can but if you shape too much you risk the chance ruining the integrity of the stock.

If you haven't bought the Duracoat yet do yourself a favor and check out Norrells moly coat for plastics, it's a pretty tough coating.

Oh and first posts are sometimes the best. Good luck.:)

FWIW, I have sanded on the Rem 700 SPS and it was fine.

Test in an area that is under the barrel.
