Robber blows off own arm with shotgun
By 24 hours news services

A Toronto-area man who blew his left arm off with a shotgun while robbing a pizza man has been ordered to lecture students on the dangers of crime - once he's out of jail.

Anthony Beckles, 20, lost his arm when a sawed-off shotgun he was using to club a pizza delivery man went off on March 23, 2003.

Beckles was out on bail on a drug charge when he committed the robbery. He is currently serving 40 months in jail for the armed robbery and has another 90 days left in his sentence.

"Losing a limb after all this is not something he had anticipated," the man's lawyer said.

Beckles has said in documents filed with the court he wants to work with youth to divert them from a life of crime.

The Crown lawyer told the judge that doing 240 hours of commmunity service giving lectures at local schools would be a fitting sentence in addition to his house arrest.

And the victim wasn't charged with anything? Maybe there is justice in the world after all.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
:)

This person would never be allowed any form of contact with my children. I know because I successfully raised three of them by not gambling with their safety.

Be glad if you're an American because Canadians have no say in what the government dictates for their kids.

If this happend in the good old USA he would sue the pizza guy and WIN!!!

This guy got HOUSE ARREST and COMMUNITY SERVICE for assaulting someone with a shotgun while on parole??? You have got to be kidding me. The weapons violation alone carries a higher sentance than that.

he may be immune to handcuffs. But, you could put him ina room with a door that required two arms width apart door knobs to be turned simultaneously in order to open the door. And tell him hes free as soon as he can let himself out.

"Only 40 months in Casa Grande for Armed Robbery!"

I think that would be disarmed robbery, wouldn't it?

Or, he had a very disarming personality!

Maybe he offered an arm and a leg to the pizza man?

One armed bandit.

Watch him try to sue the shotgun maker for failure to place a warning on the gun: "Do not use the gun to buttstroke anyone."
