Just received this in an email - haven't seen it before, did a search here and couldn't find any previous threads relating to it. Might have missed it/them or course...

Anyway - here's the link, I'm no expert on 50 cal. and the film/cinematography itself appears authentic, but those bodies/pieces are flying a lonnnggg ways - no doubt there are folks here with enough knowledge about what the .50 cal. will/won't do to weigh in. It sure doesn't look real to me, but I could easily be wrong.

Plus the shot/impact time differential is way off if these targets are 1000-2000 yds distant - though maybe it's compressed to shorten the video.

If this has been wallered around on here before, my apologies - just tell me and I'll jerk the topic.

Did you read the description of the video? Someone's a proud canuck:

this was sent to me in an email,..not for the faint of heart;A little gruesome...! damn good shooting Canadian Snipers They never saw it coming. Canadian Snipers wiping out Taliban Snipers inAfghanistan . These video shots are not made through the shooter's telescopicsight. They are made looking through the spotter's scope. The spotter liesright next to the sniper and helps the sniper to find and home in on thetarget. The sniper is using a 50 caliber rifle. A 50 cal. round is about 7-8 incheslong and the casing is about an inch in diameter. The bullet itself isone-half inch in diameter and roughly one and one- half inches long. Pay close attention to the beginning of the video. A Taliban is laying on topof the peak in front of you... when you hear the shot fired....watch what happens. The sniper is also about a half mile away... or more. A Canadian sniper in Afghanistan has been confirmed as hitting an enemysoldier at a range of 2,310 meters (about 7,579 feet), the longest recordedand confirmed sniper shot in history. The previous record of 2,250 meters wasset by US Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock in Vietnam in 1967. The Canadiansniper was at an altitude of 8,500 feet and the target, across a valley, wasat 9,000 feet. Canadian sniper units often operated in support of US infantryunits, which were grateful for their help. The record lasted only one day, until a second Canadian sniper hit an enemy soldier at 2,400 meters. The Canadian snipers fire special 50-caliber McMillan tactical rifles, whichare bolt-action weapons with five-round magazines. The Canadian snipers werethe only Canadian troops operating without helmets or flak jackets as theyhad too much other equipment to carry. Each three man team has one sniperrifle, three standard Canadian C7 rifles, one of them fitted with a 203mmgrenade launcher.

So it's an unrestricted weapon in Canada and you can buy it through Marstar, right? :D

I'm going to agree with the varmint hunting view on this video, those parts were flying way to far to be human, plus given the delay of impact I'd say the ranges to target was around 800 meters at the longest one,

Someday I'd like to meet the person who first started circulating that video as being "50 cal snipers". And punch them in the face.

The McMillan M87 and M92 are specifically named as prohibited in Canada, but they make several that are non-restricted (assuming we could get an export permit from the US for 50-calibre rifles, which aren't forthcoming). When the LIEberals passed their last nonsense, they scanned through several years of Gun Digests to see what was available, and if it didn't show up in those Gun Digests, or isn't a variant of something that was, it's still considered "non-restricted". There are also a number of Canadian smiths who make 50 rifles and receivers.

Thanks for the text, Chem Geek - that's pretty much what my forwarded email said, should have included it in my post for background.

Once you look at it with rock chucks in mind, it seems a whole lot more plausible - though even at that, whatever they're shooting is really blowing those Tali-chucks up - I suppose it could be a .50....

Plus, I think in the last scene if you watch closely you can just pick up the chuck moving in the rocks right before the shot.
