With Michigan one step closer to allowing short barreled rifles and shotguns, I'm starting the hunt for ideal candidates for multi use firearms.

I've got it narrowed down to a small handful.

1) SBR the AR pistol I'm building
2) Buy a new Ruger Charger and drop it in a 10/22 stock
3) Buy a Berreta Neos and the carbine kit
4) New Glock with a Mechtech Carbine conversion upper and have it SBR'd.

Option 1 will only increase project cost by whatever I spend on a stock ($200 stamp fee goes without saying on all options).
Option 2 is the cost of a stock.
Option 3 is the cost of the full kit, about $260, but grants me a pistol, a full length long gun and an SBR.
Option 2 & 3 are limited to .22 rim fire only.
Option 4 is probably the most expensive, but opens up a lot of pistol caliber options. I've been wanting either a .45 or a 10mm. I still get a good handgun, and a SBR to switch between.

Note that all of the options listed start as pistols. That is going to be an adamant requirement for me. Is there anything I've overlooked (aside from a 1911 with the mechtech upper)?

I vote to narrow you options down to 1 or 2. My first choice of the 2 would, I think be 2. An SBR 10/22 would be pretty awesome without the loud report...unless of course you are going to use a can too.

The suppressor option is a possibility for the future.

How does a .223 can work with .22lr? The AR pistol is already being built.

All options have their pros and coins. The Charger is not an ideal pistol for casual carry, where the Neos is better suited, and the Glock is best suited for carry.

The Neos carbine actually looks pretty good as a long gun. But the stocked pistol looks pretty goofy.

I agree that the Charger SBR might be the best, or tied for best with the AR.

The Neos and the Glock were just other options I've considered.

SBR the AR pistol, then get a .22lr pistol upper for it, best of both worlds. Given the delays in getting the stamp these days I think versatility trumps everything else at the moment.

Unless Michigan adds restrictions, you can have all the SBR uppers you want for a single SBR registered AR lower.

You really don't want to use .22lr in any suppressor that does not come apart for cleaning. OTOH if you can take it apart and clean it, .22lr will work with about any suppressor .223 or larger.

I have been thinking of doing something like the conversion kits for my .45 handgun. I dont know though...seems tacti-silly. Silly but sort of cool. A .22 might be fun but I'd like to think my SBR's are to be used to provide HD or some type of purpose where a .22 SBR may be useful in a squirrel and groundhog apocalypse. haha

I have two SBR AR's and love them both. One is a 7.5" 9mm (dedicated) and one is a 10.5" 5.56 with an aimpoint micro and YHM suppressor. They are both fun as hell.

There is noticaeable difference when I fire my .22 from a 5.56 can VS my .22 Sparrow. Plus the noticebale weight and size difference.

I picked my .22 SS sparrow up for $400. Hell you can get one of those cheaper costing ones (name escapes me). I have heard NOTHING but awesome reviews online about them for like $200...plus the tax stamp.

Build the AR pistol and use it for a year while your stamp is pending. Then add a stock when the stamp shows up.

I'm in the same boat. I just got my 9" barrel for my 300AAC build and I'm now leaning toward building a pistol just to be able to assemble and use this upper while I wait.

Thats what I did...Built a pistol while waiting on the SBR stamp. I got a pistol polymer lower for like $120 before the Sandy hook nightmare. I shot it once just to get the upper's iron sights and Aimpoint zeroed and then put it away, never using it again and eventually selling it.

In my opinion, if you dont have that stock just right when you pull the trigger it rattles your teeth. Wasn't for me... I thought I was gonna end up with a fat lip after a magazine.

oh and Huntertown arms was the cheap suppressors I was thinking of... Great reviews and CS too!

i would do more research into that before buying one. people are getting more time in with them and the reviews are very so-so when compared to other suppressors. also, the CS has been lacking as well.

Just noticed you were from west michigan... Me too. I just finished my AR pistol build, and thought about doing a sbr on it. I wouldn't be able to carry it with cpl after that point though would I?

Now on another note, I have read that adding the sig brace doesn't classify it at sbr, (not sure if it's true), but you could go that route and then sbr something else instead.
