It's these things that fishermen use on the end of their line. When you fish a lot, you loose a lot of them. So it's cheaper to by them by the can. :D


Or, it's the little row of indents around the waist of a bullet indicating the proper seating depth and/or place for a roll crimp.
 
goose2, a term unique to reloadig, it is a grove around a bullet and or case used to aid in crimping the case to prevent bullet movement or crimping the case to prevent the bullet from seating deeper when chambered of due to recoil.

To a lesser degree, it also can aid in controlling expansion and reduce loss of the lower inner lead core. That's been the key to the Rem. core-lokt bullets for decades.
