Can't believe I am contemplating another gun

GBEx: Been there, done that. Have 3 safes. Sigh. Did I mention I love lever actions? Here is my Model 71 doing what it does best - putting the smack down on something nasty.

Hahaha! Once again, I find myself preachin' to the choir. :D

I like the lever rifles, too, but I only have the two Marlin 1894Ss. I would love to add some of the period Marlins and Winchesters but they command prices that I am not willing to pay.

I am finding the idea of a 20" Rossi M92 to be tempting ... so far, I have resisted the pull ... so far ...

Looking at my Collection (Accumulation, actually) my primary longgun weakness is milsurps.

I feel your pain.

I was cleaning up my reloading room last week and ran across a bunch of 30-30 brass I'd forgotten about. I don't own a 30-30.....so.....you guessed it, it should be here by Saturday!

Half the reason I finally got a 9mm was that I'd managed to collect a bunch of brass for it by mistake while chasing after 9mmMak.

Dear, lastofthebreed

I regret to inform you that there is no cure for " lever gunitis " . I have two Henry rimfires. Both were money very well spent. A Goldenboy in a 22 WMR and a 17HMR in the Varmit express model. Both are very accurate and function flawlessly. Henry now offers factory installed Skinner sights. If your eyes are over a half century old like mine then a good peep sight will make a huge difference.

Enjoy your rifle and Happy Thanksgiving to all at the High Road, Tentwing

Can't go wrong with a Henry! I have a round barrel in 22 WMR and love it. Wouldn't mind having one in .308. The Long Ranger looks like it will find its way into my safe.

I can't believe everyone is not contemplating another gun, prices and selection have never been better, at least in my lifetime!

Yeah, come to think about it when am I not contemplating getting another gun! I like the Henry with the octagonal barrel but prefer the look of the 20" version.

I'm after a model 92 in 454cassul or a 44 mag ,or maybe a Henry steel in 44mag would be best. Maybe both. I love leverguns too, plus I've got lot's of brass and already own the dies so I geuss that means I need the rifles too.

I'm always contemplating the next one. It is truly an addiction, but at least this addiction won't kill me. Besides, who ever heard of "too many" guns? Such a thing does not exist.

I will admit that even though most of my gun needs are filled, I regularly find new "needs" to dream about. I really want two more 44 mag pistols, several single shots, and a nice long range rifle. I need none of these, but if get the money together all will probably happen.... Well its better than other addictions i guess...

That Henry Octagon Frontier with 24" barrel is interesting. I wonder why they didn't extend the magazine tube to match the barrel and to hold more rounds. I have the 20" Octagon and feel it is slightly muzzle-heavy but I love the way it shoots. I guess an extra 4" of barrel would be significantly more muzzle-heavy. Henry doesn't provide the total weight of the 24" models.

The 24" Octagon in .22 Magnum is even more interesting. I note that Ballistics By The Inch measures real-world velocities approximately the same through a 20" and 23" barrel, so there may not be much benefit to a 24" .22 mag rifle other than the longer sight picture. Same goes for the .22lr. Ballistics By The Inch gives similar results comparing various ammo through 18.5", 20", and 23" barrels. Not a lot of difference there.

I love Henrys but question the need for these longer barrel versions. I know they are big on customer relations so I guess there was a demand for it.

I'm constantly contemplating a new (or at least new-to-me) gun. The distinction is how hard I am contemplating it. Sometimes it seems the want is pretty urgent and other times the want is just a small little impulse in the back of my brain that gets overshadowed by work, church, family, and the like.

I honestly can't believe I am contemplating buying another gun.
I'm looking for a lever action rifle, too. Ever since I shot my AZ pal's .357/.38 Henry, I've had the fever. Oh, and after he also let me shoot his .357/.38 S&W 686 Plus revolver on the same range trip, I thought "Gee, I don't own a revolver, only 1911s. I should get one of those, too, to match the rifle." Only thing is, I didn't like having to remove, load and replace the tube on the Henry so I started to look at side loaders. Rossi 92s caught my eye but I dismissed them because they eject through the top of the receiver - not good if you are considering a scope down the road. This led me to Marlin 1894s which uncovered the whole "Remlin" fiasco and the fact that the .357/.38 1894C is no longer in production. So now, I'm looking at used/previously owned pre-Remington 1894Cs. They're available but at a premium price. Meanwhile, in anticipation of a road trip next year, I decided I wanted a rifle in a caliber that I already shoot that would fit in the trunk of a Mazda Miata. I bought a Ruger 10/22 Takedown. It kind of scratched the itch for a lever gun but just barely and only temporarily. The moral of all of this? The shooting sport is an addiction and desire to buy yet another firearm will take you down the rabbit hole. :D
