I am overwhelmed with trying to make a holster decision for my CS9 and could use a little help. I am trying to decide between IWB, OWB (high and tight belt slide), or something along the lines of the smartcarry. I know, I know, some will say "get all three!", but I am looking for something for primary CCW duty. Ant inputs would be appreciated....

I hear that, E.

Mine is a S&W 642 and I tried the Desantis IWB, Uncle Mike's stuff and several others. Finally opted for smooth grips on the gun and carrying in my coat or front pants pocket.

Good luck.

I have IWB, OWB and SmartCarry. The SC is actually for my wifes SP101, so I don't use it much, except for to and from softball games (no belt). I have a Brommeland MaxCon V (IWB), and a springfield armory OWB belt slide for my full-size Mil-Spec. I have found that IWB is most versatile with regard to how I dress and keeping a higher level of concealment. With IWB, your cover has to clear your belt, and then some, before you break concealment. WIth OWB, there's almost GOTTA be some gun below the belt, and you lose that buffer. It'll work well for some situations, though, and I do use it pretty often, but IWB is my "daily" rig.

BTW- a good IWB makes all the difference, as does a quality belt. I have a Rafter S belt, and am content with it- it's a good value. I wasn't content enough with their IWB to stop shopping. Since I entered Bromme-land, when I get the itch for some new iron, I now check Gary's website to make sure he can whip up some leather for me. If he doesn't make for that model, the prospect of it coming home with me aren't quite as good. Call Gary, get in line, and when you get your new holster, I dare you to be disappointed! :neener:

I agree in that for CCW, the IWB is the most versatile. I use a simple Bianchi scabbard for my 1911 and it works fine for me. For my S&W 642, I just carry it in my pocket.

For CCW under a winter coat (when I'm for sure that I'll be wearing the coat all the time) and for general use around my property, I like my Galco OWB paddle holster. Rides just high and close enough and very convenient to take on and off.

My off duty gun is a Kimber Ultra CDP (Les Baer Stinger on order) and I carry it in a Milt Sparks Versa-Max II IWB. Not only does and IWB hide better, but having the gun tucked inside the pants, tight against the body offers a little more retention security, IMHO.

Having purchased lots of holsters trying different things to get what works I have also decided the Versa Max II from WWW.Miltsparks.com is worth every penny and I would have saved a lot of money if I had listened to knowledgeable people recommendations.

The belt does make a huge difference.
I bought a sidearmor IWB for my glock 20 and a wilderness tactical 5 stitch at the same time. With those two together I tend to forget I'm even carrying.
