I apologize for being such a board hog so early on, but am in a spot to buy a couple of new guns and wanted some advice. Have decided on a new 30-06. Will be my primary hunting rifle and mainly in the south but with a few trips planned out west. I'm a traditionalist and prefer wood stocks. Would you recommend the Ruger M77, M77 Hawkeye, or Remington 700 CDL. Weight between them is similiar and I am interested in reliability and accuracy. Thanks in advance.

Buy the one you like best. They're both solid designs and you can't go wrong. We have one M77 MkII and one Rem 700 BDL, and they're both sub MOA. The Rem has the better trigger of the two, but that can be solved with a drop-in replacement.

the ruger is a beauty, but chances are, out of 100 rifles of each, more of the remmy's will be more accurate than the ruger.

I have and would recommend the Remington 700 CDL in .30-06. A great rifle for any game in North America.
