I've tried a few of my "favorite" FFLs, but it seems no one wants to sell me a new 870P for dirt cheap. What gives?

I'm specifically interested in pricing for the 4971 (870P MAX), 4419, 4459, 4421, 4417, or 5015 and the 2-shot magazine extension. Had I the pricing, it would make selecting the model easier.

I don't want to go the 870Express Frankenstein route because I already have an 870Exp and it's picky as hell about how and when it allows me to rack the slide.

Ultimately I want a park'ed 7-shot 870P with 18" barrel, illuminated rifle or ghostring sights, sling mount(s), Surefire forend, and maybe a SpeedFeed IVs or Hogue short-pull stock

870P and "Dirt cheap" are terms not used in the same sentence.

Remington Police guns are wholesaled ONLY through Remington factory authorized law enforcement distributors.

Not all Remington factory authorized distributors are LAW ENFORCEMENT distributors.

Many dealers simple don't want to go to the trouble of making a special order from a distributor they probably don't normally deal with.

This makes it a little harder to find a local FFL who will make a special order, and they are less likely to offer any kind of deal.

Here's one online dealer who will quote prices for Remington LE shotguns.
This will at least get you a ballpark price.
They stock several guns, but will quote for others.

+1.

Quality is not even cheap, let alone "dirt cheap".

The 870P is worth every extra $. Make that cent.

Think of it this way: if you're ever standing waist deep in water in some space that once, a long time ago, was part of a bayou, and there are desparate, thirsty, hungry, over-the-edge people coming towards you that don't understand the meaning of, "Let's talk about this peacefully", i'm betting you'd appreciate that extra-smoothe 870P racking.

Hopefully, the smoothe racking sound will be enough to promote sharing a cup of coffee together while you collectively devise a way out of said situation.

;)

I worded it wrong. What I mean by "dirt cheap" is as close to invoice/dealer cost as possible.
It's expensive building a personal armory :D

Getting "deals" on standard commercial guns is not that big a problem due to competition.

It's another situation entirely when dealing with limited distribution guns.

Remington sells direct ONLY to their factory authorized law enforcement distributors, and they are the only source for local FFL dealers.

When distribution is held tightly like that, you pretty well have to pay the cost.

A suggestion is to get a copy of The Shotgun News and check it for companies that distribute Remington LE guns.

Often you can get your dealer to special order from one of these, and you will usually know what the actual cost is, so you can do some comparison shopping to get a better deal.

One that does sell Remington LE guns is:
Hoplite, Inc in Sheperdsville, KY
Phone: 502-955-5014

dfariswheel, thanks for the link to thefiringlineinc. so far they've got the best price :)

"Dirt Cheap"

I understand the desire to buy things cheaply. I hate to pay retail and usually don't. However, the 10% or less over dealer cost is hurting everyone. When you need something right now, you go to your local gun store and expect him to have it on the shelf. He paid wholesale for the product and had to keep it on the shelf waiting for your emergency. His capital was tied up trying to guess what you are going to need. When you plan a purchase, you go online or to a "kitchen table" dealer for the 10% over cost price. He can do that because he has no overhead and 10% is better than nothing. I'm not lecturing but this is something to think about. How valuable is your local gun store. What if it closed? Same goes for gun shows. I go and pay admission for myself and my kids just to support the show.
