Cypress TX! DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS!
As some of you know, the Sig 550 is used by the Swiss. Here in America, I know 550's aren't too common but I do know there are some floating around. Can anyone help me find a Semi-Auto Sig 550, preferably with a bipod? I can't find one anywhere!!! :banghead:

And be sure the price isn't so expensive it could pay off our national debt.

I believe what you seek is a Sig-556 (dumbed down civilian version of the Sig-550), I don't believe that they offer a version that comes equipped with the bipod, but I don't see why a handguard from a genuine 550 wouldn't fit (but you will likely have to pay through the nose for that little convenience).

:)

Thanks for the info, it really helps.

BTW, what state do you live in? If the gun laws are too restrictive, Texas will warmly welcome you! =D Hehe.

If you are determined to have an original I can completely understand and respect that. I'm not afraid to spend the kind of $$$ the original 550's command ... but I can't justify it like I did with my AUG A2.

Long before SiG came out with the 556 and knowing the 89 ban would never be repealed, I dreamed SiG would build a compliant 55x rifle; one that would take AR mags ... rock-in mags are (and should be) a thing of the past.

Needless to say, I was pleased and pissed when SiG came out with the 556 ... pleased that they did it but pissed that they ignored the buying public and outfitted them with cheap-ass furniture. I didn't let that stop me since furniture can be changed and the overall cost was just a fraction of the cost compared to an original. Now of course they are offering their rifles with original furniture, and still 1/5th the cost of a preban.

Still ... it would be nice to have one of those spiffy pre-ban factory hard cases :)
As an owner I'm very happy with my 3 SiG-556 rifles in different configurations, all 3 combined, with upgraded furniture was less than the cost of 1 original ... I do wish someone would come out with a 20" barrel with a 1-in-8 twist. The 3rd one down is the SiG-522(22LR) and the bottom is a 556Pistol that has been SBR'd.

No kidding! That is one HOT place.

The SIG 556 has had some teething issues. I don't remember the threads but over at the SIG forum there is some issue with the semi bolt or bolt carrier chipping off IIRC.

Even so I too would like one of these rifles... without that cheese grater forend.

Yeah, a bottom edge along the bolt carrier was getting pinged on something as it rode back and forth. It was an iisue with some Sig 556s within a certain set of serial no's.
I think this issue has been addressed; atleast my 556 has not been affected by this.

As for the "funiture" issue; while true that there are better sights available than what is on the gun, the ones Sig provides are perfectly adequate as far as diopter/iron sights.
The red dot one found on some is OK but nothing better than BSA or Tasco make, and certainly no where near Eotac. But, like the flat top M4orgery line, there is a world of stuff out there in sights and scopes that will work very well on the Sig 556.

+1, I wouldn't mind one either, but I want a different chambering as I have the .223Rem. role filled pretty well. A 6.5G or 6.5MPC would be perfect, though I have considered getting Mr. Rumore to build a .458SOCOM for me.

I live in CT we still have the "assualt weapon ban", which is now illegal as far as I'm concerned in light of the recent Supreme Court decision.

Sig5XX rifles are banned, but thankfuly Sig renamed a bunch the "SCM" so we can get them.

I just need another lower to turn mine into a 550 clone, I dumped the stupid fish gill handguards really fast for a set of green 550 ones.

Right now its the most reliable rifle I own, 3k+ rounds without a hicup of anykind.

ConservativeMetalhead, I know it's a 45 minute drive, but I saw quite a few at the Pasadena Gun Show yesterday. AJC Sports out of Lake Jackson had some on their table.
