Would you folks be interested in SIG 551s made here in the US? Currently there are somewhere between 35 and 45 in the US that are legal for a civilian to own, but I am looking into the possibilty of getting a small production run of SIG 551s.
The way it looks right now is they would be built on a genuine SIG receiver with 10 US legal parts. Semi Auto only of course, due the legality of it. Green hardware. Price would be a bit over $5000.
Crazy price I know, but when you figure that a SIG 550 goes for around 13000 http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976527873.htm I think someone could turn these around and sell them for more than they paid. Kinda pricey for most of us (I as a normal person can't afford one at that price, but thats the cheapest I think they could be made and not lose money)
Anyway, I'd like to know if there is interest.

Do a search on the subject. The matter of US-made 55x rifles has been broached before and that consensus is that it won't happen. The best hope is that if FN's sales numbers for the upcoming PS90 and FS2000 justify the market for high-end foreign semi-autos, then maybe SIGArms and the Swiss will reconsider.

Not joking, nope

Not joking, sorry. The cost of the recievers and parts are shall we prohibative. Meaning, the parts and reciever will cost $4000, plus the US made parts have to be produced, as there are none, and then there's labor... I figured $5000 was reasonable estimate, I'd be happy to share more detailed info with anyone who wants it, I'm not trying to make ANY money, I just want a SIG 551 or 552, and the only way to do it right now is to build it. My logic was, if *I* wanted one, maybe someone else would, and if enough other people got in on it we might be able to defray some of the costs of US made parts etc.
There is a rumor that SIG may begin production themselves actually. This was pointed out to me by a member of a different board. I have no idea if it is true, but I would appreciate it if anyone knows anything about it if they'd post some info so we can all learn and be better for it. I had not heard anything about it until now. They said the rifle should be in the 1-1.5k range (MUCH more affordable :D ) so hopefully they are correct and we'll see some of these hit the market soon! :)

I reckon a good machine shop should be able to produce SIG receivers from bar stock for not much more than $1K apiece, even in small quantities... the prices you're quoting sound very, very high to me.

Not interested. No one wants a 55X more than me, but they're simply not worth 5X what a very good AR variant goes for.

When they're $1500, call me. When Sig USA gets Swiss Arms to untie their panties and let them do a USA 55X (which they want to), give me another call.

If it were maybe, say....under 2k US I could be more interested.

I already have an accurate Colt 6700. Not really sure I need another accurate .223, though, as much as I'd love to have one.

Regards,
Rabbit.

I saw one of those once. Once.

Definitely not interested in a firearm that expensive that would be $$$ to
get parts for when something breaks in the distant future.
