Can't find any 9mm self defense rounds.

I buy my JHP from SG Ammo (often best prices online) - http://www.sgammo.com/catalog/pistol-ammunition

They are closed 3/15 - 3/24 and will resume operation on 3/25. They are currently out of stock on 9mm JHP ammunition but have plenty of other calibers. Check back on 3/25 and they may have restocked their inventory.

For 9mm, I usually recommend Remington Golden Saber 124 gr +P JHP but due to current situation, any JHP may be better than FMJ.

Right after Christmas they had a fabulous sale on Golden Saber JHP's but I doubt that will happen again for quite a while

Gunbot was fantastic when it first started out. I got some insane deals on there. Now, it is the first result when you google ".223 ammunition in stock" and it is general knowledge on many firearms forums.

Everyone and there brother watches it like a hawk... you will see good priced ammo show up, and 3 minutes later it is bought out, out of stock again

One thing I did was invest in a 10mm. When 9mm is going for 80 cents a round, 45 cents for a hot 10mm load doesn't look so bad! When the ammo shortage goes back to normal I'll be back to shooting a lot more 9mm but until then, I'm enjoying my 10.

http://www.instock223.com seems like they have an up to date listing of ammo in stock 223 , 9MM , 40 etc. They have a several listings for 9MM JHP in stock.

Gunbot showed Cabelas as having some 9mm FMJ yesterday, I think it was $13.99 but I don't need any. Within about an hour it was showing as out of stock.

I watch gunbot all the time. Stuff is selling FAST. I noticed one site was selling 9mm FMJ reloads for $127/500rds. I went on the site and they had 162 lots available. Sold out in 30 minutes.

That is 81000 rounds sold in half an hour. Gotta be quick!

Gunbot showed that someone had .22 for $.15 per round but I can't remember which company. That was yesterday and again this morning and is $75 per brick. It is not showing in stock as of a few minutes ago so people are still crazy in some regards.

Cabela's had .223 this morning at around $.45 per round delivered and it is all gone.
They also had 9mm for a decent price yesterday and it was gone in an hour.

I also saw some 7.62x39 this morning at around $.25 and the lowest they show now is
$.42 per round.

All of these were compliments of Gunbot at around 7:30 EST. Ammo is showing up at affordable prices, relatively affordable, but you better be able to pull the trigger right away because it is gone fast. The only thing I really needed was some .22 mag and I did find it at Graf's for a decent price with a 10 box max. 5.45 has been pretty available all along at normal prices.

I guess all that 9mm I picked up this past year for $8.97 a box (.18 per round) was a good idea. Same with 45 at $9.97 and .22 bricks at less than $20 per brick. The only thing I really need/want is affordable .22 LR and I mean 4-5c per round at the most.

Uh FMJ IS a self-defense round. Shoots through a bit more but it does work.

Having been shot with fmj, I can say that it is good for practice, but nothing I would want to rely on for defensive purposes. It zipped through and did some serious damage, but had it expanded like an average hollow point round, it likely would have nicked my spine and did considerably more internal damage.

Now, if you can shoot, a whole passel of fmj will do the trick. But my own personal opinion is that the 9mm requires a good hp bullet to shine as a self defense round.

If you've been checking Gunbot, there's been plenty of quality SD 9mm ammo (not necessarily cheap but not crazily expensive either, especially since you just need a couple of boxes). But did it put you down and incapacitate you?

The purpose of SD shooting is to stop not kill.

The NYPD used FMJ for several years before going to JHPs. The main reason for change over was over penetration. Yes it does not have as much stopping power as JHPs (when they work) but it's not like flicking marbles at the BG.

If all one has is FMJ, use it!

No, it did not. It center punched me and took out my left kidney in addition to punching a bunch of little holes in my intestines and stomach, but I was combat effective for at least another ten minutes. It was unpleasant, but not incapacitating on anything approaching an immediate timeframe.

Hey, I am not saying to abandon all hope if thats all you have, and if it would have gone through my head or heart, I am certain that I would have been killed. I am saying that fmj simply isn't the best choice. 9mm is a round that will do anything you need it to if you have the right bullet, and for sd purposes fmj just isn't the right bullet.

9mm JHP is available online from at least 30 different retailers. It is pretty high priced but if you are looking for SD rounds then 2-3 boxes will get you by until pricing gets better.
