Hey all I have been in the market for a new gun for some time now and now that I have made up my mind I can't for the life of me figure if I want a .40 or a 9mm. I would love to have a .45 acp, but the grip is just too big for my girly hands.:( the .40 ammo is more available in my area, can't find 9mm, but 9mm is a little cheaper and you get more rnds in the magazine. What would y'all go after?

40cals are good in either 165gr or 180gr

...

Depending where you are from (State wise) would leave you with many options of 40cal guns with HC (standard flush) mags that carry 12 - 14 rounds of 40.

Sufficient loads to perform HD/SD needs along with ccw options..

Sig offers a great *soft shooting P229 or 226 in 40 as does *Beretta's Px4 40, with rotating barrel, and also offers 3 back straps which, the small one, may make the grip fit your hands, hopefully, like a glove..

Have both the Sig P229/40 and the Beretta Px4 40 and both are the easiest to disassemble, inspect, clean, and reassemble, bar none, out there..

Luck,

Ls

What do you want the pistol for--plinking, target, competition, varmints, home defense, cc?

Buy the pistol/caliber that suit your needs, preferences and pocketbook.

I chose 9mm which can (arguably) be fairly successful for all of the above uses and is cheaper so I can shoot more.

OR use the money you save with 9mm to buy a .40 and do all the above better.;)

have you looked at the springfield xd 45? the ergos on those are generally agreeable for those with smaller hands.

i don't know how small your hands are, but i can't grip some larger guns but the springfield xd line is very pleasant for me to shoot as far as polymers go.

i assume b/c you said you couldn't get your hands around a 45, you were looking at double stack guns correct? if so, i'd strongly re-consider a 1911. i just barely saw the light of day last week and wish i had sooner.

anyways, cz also makes a .40, the cz97 i believe. i just grabbed a p07 today and plan on getting more czs, they have excellent grips for people of all sizes of hands IMO

the main purpose for this gun will be cc. I have looked at the uspc, and px4. I really thought about getting a 1911 a while ago, but I'm just unsure about the reliability of them. I hear there are lots of fte, ftf, etc. So that's when I checked them off my list and stuck with the plastic guns:banghead: I will own a 1911 someday though, I just love the looks, feel, and ergos.
By the way thanks for the replies thus far.
