These are my replica Colt cartridge conversions. The holstered guns are 1872 Open Tops. I resized these down to 7x4 inches in photoshop elements, but they still show up too big here.

I saved your pic and it was huge, 4752x3168. I resized it with Photoshop down to 1280 width like all my other pics, 1280x853 in this case. Uploaded it to ImageEvent and I choose the 800 width for posting in forums.

PS, nice collection!!!

I use photobucket for all my pics. YMMV.
I like those open tops, Mike.
I sure wish someone made fake ivory grips with the look, feel, and weight of real ivory.
I guess the only way I can get that is to fork over 500 bucks for the real thing.

Not to hijack Mike's thread but TruIvory is really nice stuff. It looks the most like the real thing. Unfortunately, I've never been able to get a good closeup shot of the grain.

Mike, if you ever decide to attach your images through the "Manage Attachments" funtion and make your image link to those attachments, the forum software will size them nicely for you.

Darn you and your big pictures, when they're not so big I have time to wipe the drool off my chin instead of scrolling... :cuss:

Specs please! What guns converted to what using what technique? Would you recommend it? I notice the middle one seems to be converted to cartridges but kept the loading lever and no ejector. Can you tell us (me) a little more about that one?

The top unholstered gun is a Kenny Howell 1851 Navy Colt Factory conversion in .38 LC. The middle gun is a Howell blacksmith 1851 Navy conversion, also in .38 LC, and the bottom gun is a Cimarrom Uberti 1872 Open Top in .44 Spl.

Off to the right is a prototype ASM first model Richards 1860 Army conversion in .44 Colt.

The holstered gun on the left is another Kenny Howell 1851 Navy Colt factory conversion, and the holstered gun on the right is another .44 Spl Open Top. Both Open Tops have genuine Ivory grips. The others are phoney.

The one I've been eyeballing the hardest is the Howell `51 at the top.

Did you have to have your ASM 1860 rebuilt? I've been wanting one, as so far they're the only ones that built a Richards Type I but word is that they are prone to having soft innards. Member Strawhat had to have his rebuilt with new parts.

Seems to me that with Kenny Howell retiring and Bob Millington no longer working, there's a big void for custom-built cartridge conversions. Which is a shame. I should've got on Bob's waiting list when I had the chance.

I haven't changed a thing on the ASM, and I used it as amain match gun for a couple of years in the 1990s. But, I think replacing the internals with Colt parts would be wise if it is going to see hard use. My Richards has a one and three quarter pound trigger pull...came that way from the factory. Even I think that is too light, and I'm an experienced shooter who likes light triggers.

The Richards was my first conversion, and it has a special place in my heart. I retired it from regular shooting because I don't want to wear it out.

I think Kenny is going to start building conversions again as spec guns. That way he can take his time and sell them when they are done rather than having impatient customers who wait years to get their guns done, and bug him to hurry up.

You might want to contact him and see. Maybe you could get dibs on one.

Also I think Kirst and Strite (the Strite member of the partnership) are building nice conversions.
