Below is an excert from a message I recieved from ebay, after attempting to list a folding AK stock. I guess they let CA's rules govern their sales. They cancelled my auction, although to their credit, at least they refunded the selling fees.

"eBay does not allow members to sell any parts or accessories for firearms that are defined as assault weapons by federal or California law. "

I read elsewhere in eBay's policies that apparently semi-auto AKs are 'assault weapons' in CA.

Sure glad I dont have to live over in that goofy state. Oh well.

It's the word "AK" in your listing that gets them constipated.

Try using this in your description:

"Folding stock for AK or AK style airsoft rifles...."

They don't want you to sell evil AK folding stocks, but AK folding stocks for airsoft are ok.

Nope. Most accessories are okay - they're just worried about getting sued by someone in California or something. Can't really blame 'em. Basically if it is a "gun part" or the like, they don't want to touch it with a ten foot pole.

ebay canned all firearm parts. It was their response to the Virginia Tech shootings where the killer may have obtained some of his gun accessories from ebay.

So, you can't buy a magazine spring, but Ginsu Knives are perfectly fine.

Actually, they are not worried about getting sued at all (where's the liability?). There's a million other places people can get the perfectly legal gun parts and accessories that Ebay now prohibits. It's all about image. With the news making a big deal about the legal ten-round .22 pistol magazines the lunatic used at Virginia Tech having been purchased through ebay, they percieved that their "socially responsible" image had taken a hit among the leftist loons and soccer moms out there (no offense intended towards soccer moms).

This is simply their way of fixing it, "see, we're good, we won't let this 'EEVIL' gun stuff on our sight anymore". It has nothing to do with lawsuits; it's an image thing completely.

For some reason, companies like Ebay, Paypal, Google, etc. are completely run by hard-left types, even more so than other corporations. They think this way, and cannot comprehend anything different. Everything is about profit, and they think it's important to portray a "socially responsible" image to the masses, who by-and-large are ignorant about gun stuff.

They stilll have gun parts. A while ago this complete upper barrel and bipod of an M60 sold for $250, and I am STILL kicking myself for not using the $200 BIN. Plus there's a Bren machine gun stock right now...guess that isn't considered an "assault rifle".

But yeah, they're really anal with certain things. They took off my cap gun listing because it "looked too real" or some nonsense.

Wonder what happened to the anticipated update of policy."

***Message from Matt Halprin – New Listing Restrictions on Gun Parts***

July 30, 2007 | 10:00AM PST/PT

Hello everyone…In mid-August, we will be updating our Firearms, Weapons and Knives Policy to place more restrictions around gun-related items. Once these changes take effect, we will prohibit listings of any firearm part that is required for the firing of a gun. This includes items like bullet tips, brass casings and shells, barrels, slides, cylinders, magazines, firing pins, trigger assemblies, etc. Please read the Firearms, Weapons and Knives Policy for more details on our current policy.

As you may know, eBay does not allow the listing of any items which are regulated by individual states or the federal government; however, there are still a large number of firearm-related parts that are legal and are widely available in retail stores. These items have also historically been allowed on eBay.

After learning that some items purchased on eBay may have been used in the tragedy at Virginia Tech in April 2007, we felt that revisiting our policies was not only necessary, but the right thing to do. After much consideration, the Trust & Safety policy team – along with our executive leaders at eBay Inc. – have made the decision to further restrict more of these items than federal and state regulations require.

This new update continues to encourage safety among our community members and brings our policies in the U.S. and Canada in closer alignment with our existing policies in other markets around the globe.

Sincerely,

Matt Halprin
Vice President, Trust & Safety

Ebay

I and many other quit Using ebay since the ban on anything that has to do with making a gun fire is how Ebay put it,They gave very little warning to any gun dealers,if any at all,so many went out of business,Gunbroker.com has been good to me .:)

I don't use ebay, tried once and got a scratched cd out of it...I have a good local gunstore that is willing to order anything I want, and if its something that they wouldn't normally carry such as my bianchi holsters, they get it for me at cost.

Ebay is VERY inconsistent. Many banned items miss their screening process and are sold. If you advance search a banned item and check the box "show only completed listings" it will show you banned items sold that they missed.

Funny, under their “Everything Else” category, eBay has a “Mature Audience” section filled with porn and sex toys. I would bet money that any complaints regarding their sales of this material are met with strict defenses of First Amendment rights. Is it just me, or is this not a huge double standard?

Flea-bay uses filters & people that look for key words also some fellow flea bayers are more than happy to inform their t(h)rust and safety department of any real or perceived infraction of their shifting policies.
Being based in the heart of the liberal beast does effect their selling policies the PRK is a law unto itself regarding firearms that are "good" or "bad" heck they do not except that the Assault weapons ban sunsetted(sp) .

You can either re-list it and not use evil words or letters like AK AR15 or sniper use the PC or sporting terminology for each part or better yet list it on any of the WTS areas of forums or go to a pro 2nd Amendment site such as

www.gunbroker.com

www.auctionarms.com

Fleabay :barf: is NOT pro 2A vote with your dollars take them and your business where they will be better served:cuss:

Guys - think of it this way... If they expedite the sale and exchange of something in a "bad" transaction (i.e., someone selling non california stuff to someone in california), and legal crap happens, they have to spend money on it. I'm guessing they don't really make enough off shooting stuff to justify hiring a team of lawyers to make stuff like that go away. It's just safer for them to issue blanket "we don't do this" stuff.

One lawsuit from ONE parent of a kid who goes out and buys something which he then takes to school to show off to his fellow delinquents will wipe all the profits from their "hunting" section. It's just easier for them to say "no," and avoid all liability.
